Budget Bakes In Housing Inequality

Budget bakes in housing inequality   Sad
2026-05-13
greens.org.au
Labor promised to deliver a budget that would tackle intergenerational housing inequity but failed to deliver.

The Greens say Labor’s budget bakes in existing housing inequality and does nothing for renters, public housing, and first home buyers being smashed by inflation driven by untaxed corporate profits.

Lines attributable to Senator Barbara Pocock, Greens spokesperson for Finance, Housing and Homelessness:

“Labor had the chance to scrap the most unfair tax breaks, what a shame it missed the moment.

“This budget bakes in existing housing inequality. It locks in tax breaks for multi-property owners. The top 20% who own more than 50% of the property market will continue to hold this wealth.

“Rich property hoarders with 50 properties will continue getting tax breaks on their 50 properties.

“3 million homes will continue to sit in the real estate portfolios of wealthy property hoarders while 190,000 people are on public housing waiting lists.

“In the midst of a housing crisis, this budget does nothing for renters and first home buyers who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads. Instead it protects the unfair wealth hoarding of multi-property investors and the 1%.

“Once again, Labor has over-promised and under-delivered on housing for renters, first home buyers and people on public waiting lists. There’s no new money to actually build housing, except for $110m for defence housing for US and UK troops under AUKUS.

“Under Labor, homelessness has risen by 10% yet this budget does nothing for homelessness services unable to meet the rising demand. Without tackling the structural drivers - high rents and a lack of public housing, the homelessness crisis will only worsen.

“Labor is a government of gestures. We have massive housing inequality in our country. What a missed opportunity for genuine reform.”

The Greens-led Senate inquiry into intergenerational housing inequity will commence with its first hearing on Monday 18 May in Canberra.

Hi sir Crook,
rents will never go down due to uncontrolled mass immigration.

Albo said last night on the 7.30 report that
Labor will still allow another 245,000 immigrants over the next year
which is down from the normal 500,000 or more.
Millions have arrived since the Covid times.
Our population just hit 28 million.

Albo is like Basil Fawlty overbooking his hotel rooms.   Roll Eyes

This is not correct. It will push rental prices up.

All the wonderful tax changes to attack the rich and save the poor push up house prices and rent. To help combat this, Labor is throwing all sorts of subsidies at the housing market in an attempt to keep house prices down (and save building industry jobs), but not enough to keep rents down.

It's really bad in Melbourne -

Labor invented new land taxes for Landlords which have been passed on to renters.
I'm so glad I'm not renting.
So much for Labor looking after battlers - that's all bullshit -
Labor doesn't care about battlers at all,  at all,  at all.

Watch bobby's YT !

George Carlin is not bad !   .....for an atheist.    Grin

.

THE SAME THEME......

Q.
OUR POLITICAL CLASS....ARE SERVING WHO ?

1/ It is not the Australian Taxpayers.    [Australian Taxpayers - are a group of Australians who are there,
simply to give to politicians.....
MORE OF THEIR MONEY.......FOR POLITICIANS......TO SPEND.]

2/ It is not Australian citizens.                  [politicians >> 'giving' << our resources away to multinational mega corporations, for a mere pittance, of their value.]

.

Sorry bobby.......           Wink

Hosea 4:1
Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel:
for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land,
because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2  By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

"By swearing, and lying"
,     i.e.....by making a covenant with another person,
but then willfully breaking your covenant,
for the sake of your own convenience.

e.g.
Politicians, and their policy promises. ??

Q.
Are politicians, persons who are our    ACTUAL    'moral' leaders today ?

Yes they are.  !!

i.e.
The function of politicians, their 'reason for being',
is to work to frame and to enact ALL of our laws !!

But i wouldn't leave one them alone with my grandmother !!

Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:
because thou hast rejected knowledge,
I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:
seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God,
I will also forget thy children.
7  As they were increased, so they sinned against me:
therefore will I change their glory into shame.

The actual lawlessness in 2026, in Australia.....

LOGICALLY;

AN ARGUMENT.....

1/ Many people must believe that thievery, in Australia, is morally OK.

Because so many Australians today do engage in theft and stealing.

2/ Many people must believe that murder, in Australia, is morally OK.

Because today, we are seeing so many murders being committed in Australian communities.
[......every other day, in the MSM you will see a report of another murder in Australia.]

ARGUMENT......
Certainly.......our political class must believe that
thievery and murder is morally OK in Australia today.

Because it is principally our political class who ACTUALLY have the power to enact laws
which could PUNISH thievery and murder.
[....which could deter such criminal behaviour, and especially......deter the RECIDIVISM of convicted criminals.]

But our political class have not.

Clearly we must assume.....that our political class
are just 'fine' with present, general lawlessness in Australia.

[Jesus said]....
John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 15:10
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love;
even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11  These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you,
and that your joy might be full.

ARGUMENT;
Lawlessness has been the principle cause, of the destruction of past human empires.

And i would argue, that we are also witnessing its 'consequence' in our society, today.

Matthew 16:1
The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came,
and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

Matthew 16:2
He answered and said unto them,
When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather:
for the sky is red.
3  And in the morning,
It will be foul weather to day:
for the sky is red and lowring.
O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky;
but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

The overwhelming majority of Anthony Albanese’s frontbench will still be able to benefit from the existing negative gearing system under grandfathering arrangements, as they face accusations of pulling the ladder up behind them with their suite of property tax reforms.

At least 20 out of 23 members in the Labor cabinet have declared they own more than two properties and will still be able to offset rental losses against their six-figure parliamentary incomes, with the government only scrapping negative gearing in the budget for housing purchased after July 1, 2027.
