When our last cat died, back when I was still living with my family, our dog was inconsolable over his cat-sister friend. After he finished grieving, he made it known that we were to never say that cat's name again. According to animal rules, you are not allowed to talk about the dead.

That might be the thinking of these children. The children think a ghost is in the house. And the children are getting scared enough to stop crying.
