I suspect the government wants to get rid of cash to remove the few pensioners who hoard cash to assist in reducing their asset test.

I reckon there are some who really do have a "mattress stuffed with cash".  Cheesy

As it should be.
Because if politicians, judges and senior public servants milionares get pensions without any assett test, neither should we.

All of those groups you mentioned are subject to the same means test as you and I if they apply at Centrelink for the Age Pension.

But they don't, do they?
They get this wonderful, free, taxpayer guaranteed obcene pension.

And I'm betting they don't have to inform Centrelink if their bank balance increases by $2000 or more or if the value of their household possessions increases by $1000 or more like age pensioners are supposed to do.

I say supposed because all of the age pensioners I've spoken to since I've been on the age pension for nearly the past 2 years don't do that and weren't even aware that they were supposed to do it.

And Centrelink obviously don't make a big deal out of it because pensioners make up a large part of the voting population and if the government upsets the oldies too much then it's almost a sure thing they will be tossed out at the next election.

Mind you, I strongly suspect the majority of age pensioners' bank balances would never increase by $2000 or more anyway. With the cost of living these days their pension probably gets paid every fortnight then gets taken out almost straight away so their overall bank balance never changes.

Gee, there must be mattresses stuffed with a lot of cash around the country.

Makes you wonder why they would bother seeing as the assets test for the age pension is very generous (in my opinion).

Here's the latest one from Services Australia.
