Used a few tools today
Apr 15th, 2026 at 8:27pm

The missus wanted a video cabinet to fit between the window frame and walk in wardrobe.
So today I bought some wood and set out using my various toys, oops TOOLS.

Started with my Triton Wark bench circular saw to cut up the timber to size.
They used the Brad nailer to assemble the frame.
Face boards had to be cut to size on my drop saw.
Then the smaller Brad nailer was required to frame up the face.
Out came the disc sander to smooth off the faces before I attacked it with the router to give it some radius corers and edges.
Then a bit of prettying up .
The mouse sander came out to smooth everything ready to paint.

On goes the air compressor again, and the HVLP spray gun to start spraying it up for its first coat.
Tomorrow, the mouse sander will be employed again and then the second and final coat of stain and gloss.

By Friday it will be in place.

You're a hero.

Did you consider cutting down a larger video cabinet to fit?
That might have been faster.

Yep,
So relaxing, so serene, so thoroughly enjoying.
Got its final coat after lunch and it will be ready to mount tomorrow.

Little woman happy.
Me happy and relaxed
And it all cost just under $150.00 , bloody stain and paint made up $45.00 of that.

Planning for the next project already

yes.

I had a similar feeling tuning up a new hand plane.
It shaved off curls of wood after that.

Sounds like a good project, what type of wood did you use?

pine.
I was surprised a brand new hand plane would need tuning up.
It make a cheapish new plane work very well. Think it was  $60 or so, from america
took 2 or so hours to get it all flat, square, level and then get the blade flat, square and sharpish.
remove all milling marks.

did the same to my $12 very small plane after that

I used my Edge Pro sharpening tool to sharpen 4 knives and a pair of scissors yesterday.
I only used a 220 grit stone -
I could have continued with a 400 stone, a 600 stone and a 1000 stone
but I just wanted a quick easy job.
One knife shown was serrated so only one side was sharpened but that's how you do those ones.
It worked really well.

Thanks -
it seems that just about everything gets thrown away these days from:
knives to scissors to cars.

I like fixing things up.
With the Edge Pro I can get better than factory results if I take my time.   Smiley
