Is it just me, or is anybody else wondering why Donnie needs a hug?

Wouldn't it be better if he just turned up to the Oval Office at 9am, received his security briefing and put in the 35 hours a week he gets paid to be POTUS?

He's collecting his salary this time. On top of that, he's selling Trump and Melaniacoin, shorting the oil markets, receiving lavish personal gifts and doing a few deals on the side. He turns up to work at midday, finishes well before five and takes four day weekends at Mar a Lago, charging the taxpayer to put up his entourage.

His busiest day is his fortnightly cabinet meeting, televised, where they go round the room and congratulate him for being such a great prez. It's over in an hour and a half - less if the fakers run out of questions.

Why would he need hugs? He's a renowned germaphobe. He goes through a packet of wet wipes a day in handshakes.

Islam is a complex religion with diverse interpretations, where the overwhelming majority of adherents practice it peacefully.

Like Christian nationalism and Christian fundamentalist movements, a minority weaponise their religion, driven as much by political and social incentives as theology, and Islam is no exception.

This is exactly why Trump pushing the US down a path aligned with Christian nationalism is so dangerous.

If you're not willing to defend the separation of church and state, a principle embedded in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, and you ignore the way that ideology is being woven through institutions, particularly the military, then you have no standing to complain about people exploiting Islam.

At that point, it's not about principle, it's about preference, and that puts you on the same moral footing as the people you claim to oppose.

Or is hate ok when directed at people or groups you deem acceptable targets?
