KKKaroline Leavitt hates this photo.
I don't blame her, but I also don't care.
What's been more interesting is Trump is starting to blame her for the 97% negative reporting he's been getting.
With wall-to-wall negative coverage driven entirely by his own conduct, Trump has started taking little public swipes at Leavitt, jokingly suggesting she's to blame for the press being "97% negative".
We've seen this movie before.
With Trump, the "just joking" line isn't harmless banter, it's a pressure signal. It's how he floats blame without formally owning it, tests the reaction, and puts the target on notice. The pattern is well established, today it's a laugh in front of the cameras, tomorrow it's a narrative, and not long after that someone's out the door.
The problem for Leavitt, and anyone else in that orbit, is that there's no fixing this.
You can't spin your way out of sustained negative coverage when that coverage is simply reporting what he's actually doing. There's no comms strategy in the world that turns objectively damaging behaviour into positive press, no matter how loyal or aggressive the spokesperson is.
So what you're seeing isn't a comms issue, it's the early stages of blame-shifting.
And if history is any guide, when the coverage doesn't magically improve, because it can't, the "jokes" stop being jokes.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I wonder if she'll pull a Kellyanne Conway and exit the MAGA/Trump inner circle before the election and save her image from going through what will undoubtedly be worse than Jan 6th with all the efforts Trump has been taking to steal the election.
