Hastie explains
Mar 30th, 2026 at 5:44am

Just saw this morning's repeat of Insider's interview of Hastie.

I am mightily impressed with the guy.
Not impressed by typical bias ABC Lefty questions.
To which Centre-Right Hastie answered with an honest intensity that obviously impressed the following panel judgements.

I liked how he openly admits "that's complicated" and leap frogs the would be following question by actually trying to explain that complication and again staying a step ahead of the interviewer by finally concluding that "it's a part by part process" because there is no other way. Not once did he hide behind playing with words, tossing salads, denying or ignoring the questions with deliberate arrogance and most importantly - lying off the questions.

In regards to Trump & Hanson? He's not interested in preference votes alliance with One Nation. Just offering more and he did provide how in the interview.
He isn't a Trump supporter like Hanson, but he wasn't afraid to tell the Pro-Lefty biased ABC that he wasn't an ANTI-Trump either and the stickler Lefty interviewer and panel respected that.

This guy has obviously got the goods. The fact that he talks and puts up his goals for Australia with an unorthodox and honest spade is a spade Trump-like manner and still impress the Left, says something.

They say the Coalition are still holding back with Taylor-Canavan.
But maybe they are holding back Hastie like a rock in a sling shot.
He may be the first Minister that wins an election, by NOT being a leader (which now looks like the position that means "The biggest loser") and expressing the SUPERIOR 'PARTY' AS A WHOLE?

"Not impressed by typical bias ABC Lefty questions."

What's 'Left' bias about asking questions that challenges the interviewed. ?

Is far right questioning soft questions to give the interviewer a platform to roll out their propaganda ?

I've never been impressed with Right wing extremism. Never.
But because I am Right towards Centre, I can easily be more unimpressed by Leftism Extremism and unlike the Right, the Extremism in the Left is like a 90% majority.
I was a die hard Greenie back in the day. It was a great era of beginning for the Greens, because it was not just conservative in its approach and application, but a specialisation in Environmental issues that rendered all opposition, except the Nationals for Rural farming, etc - as nothing more than unqualified to oppose. But then the Extremists took over. Radicalisation and aggressive violent activism towards militant like operations to achieve goals. It was all about money and power now. I left.

I am not sure about Hastie.  Yes, he is a decorated Army veteran who has seen service in some of the most extreme areas the Australian Government put him.  Yes, he talks the talk and walks the walk, but at the moment, he is shaping up to be nothing more than a whiteant, making comments and giving interviews than do nothing but show up what a fool Angus Taylor is.

He didn’t run for Leader last time because he knows he would have been elected in a landslide and have to stay relevant until the next election - something that would be hard for any Leader in Opposition

Hastie will take the Opposition to the next election, but I am guessing the night of the long knives will only happen a couple of months before hand - unless Angus deteriorates even further to the point of needing removal

My concern is that Hastie will go in with big ideas and then fizzle out as the real impact of being a Opposition leader or even PM comes through.  I am not sure he is the man for the job

Would you say he is a closet Laborite in the NLP and he just doesn't know it?
He seemed to open up for the Lefty ABC.

They say service in the military can create the odd loose canon.
Do you think he is one of those VIC?

Maybe Jasin.     I think we all believe that we could go in and virtually change all the is bad into something good without a full understanding of just how long and complicated things are.

I think most Australians have a belief that we should look after Australia and Australians first, only take people in that the Country can afford to take in without disadvantaging Australians, stop immigration from Countries that have high crime rates/low rates of assimilation to Australia, don’t subscribe to Australian values…etc you have heard them all.   But. when you park your arse on the big chair - it isn’t that easy - or it probably would have been done.

I think Hastie believes that “follow me Lads over the hill” attitudes that may have worked in the Army must work in politics - I think we know it won't

Interesting. I think you're right with him.

I'm betting he will be PM though.
A world at war with Australia to be involved as always, would make him the orthodox choice by Australians and the needs of our Allies for us to perform with them. Wether he knows this with his apparent confidence, or again, not?

I would give him a chance - but I think he will disappoint.    Liberal party have the same problem as Labor, too many old men recycled through portfolios and unwilling to step aside and let a new generation in

VIC my dear friend. You've hit the bullseye 🎯
(It must be easy to shot a target in a sub?)

You are absolutely right.
The future of our politics is in our youth.
I thought I would never hear, so to speak, someone that recognises the crux of it all here. Ironic that a kid was Prime Minister for a day today.

Ahh, the gods are smiling.
