My next car will be electric.

Could well see a small electric here and one old petrol.
One electric and two petrols sounds unwise.
Both of us like our old petrols too much at this stage

I have to admit I was a little stunned too, as I don’t like feeling pressured to change vehicles even though I looking at them and tempted, we did test drive a Nissan one and it was impressive. The economics make sense but at my age and stage in life I’m not doing a lot of driving during weeks except to shops locally. A full tank petrol lasts me a month.
We do like our turbo 4x4 diesel for long travel, hauling trailer or caravan, and basically we do our long miles in that because it’s bigger and safer etc. We bought it brand new off the showroom floor 4 years ago and have a 10 year warranty, it’s our very first vehicle we ever bought brand new!
There was such a dilemma buying new at that time around COVID era and many had to wait a year for their cars to fulfill their order. Remember that dilemma? I had an abn for photography then and the February special with Nissan was $5,000 off price if we held an abn for more than 12 months! Wow hey!

Have you done a emf reading whilst driving in the EV car? I’m curious.

I'm predicting that Private Companies will take advantage of the very slow distribution of EV charges around cities to meet demand, by implementing their own FEES upon the charge cost.

...just like Auto bank teller fees. Wink

Yeah I’ve noticed that it was mentioned by our banks/government the credit card fees with be dropped for consumers and charged to shop owners but they’ve mentioned it will only increase food/drink etc prices to be charged back to consumers.
Do any of our economics in charge ever think things through?

Sorry - I'm remaining a dinosaur when it comes to this "climate change/renewables, & EVs" BS.

Australia has a become a big dumping ground for Chinese made EVs - that no one else seems to want.

As far as I can see the whole deal is a scam.

Chinese electric car maker BYD is renting hectares of makeshift storage space including at a theme park south of Sydney after importing thousands more cars than it sells, allowing it to stockpile lucrative carbon credits under the Albanese government’s new vehicle efficiency standards.

The EV giant imported nearly 51,000 cars in the year to September, data from the Register of Approved Vehicles show, but it sold just shy of 38,000. Rivals such as Toyota, Ford, Tesla and MG kept much tighter inventories, with import and sales figures matching each other much more closely.

Hubby makes same sensible comment!
He has said that the EV roof should have solar panels to keep battery charged up.
Now there’s a better green solution!
When that happens, we will buy one.
We have our electric golf buggy batteries on solar panels hubby put on roof.
Oh but it makes too much sense to do that, I don’t like the idea of solely relying on electricity! Why would anyone?
Last year, they made a huge push to rid natural gas appliances and still at it this year.
Government incentives to change gas HWS, gas ducted heating, gas cooking, all to electricity.
Now it looks as though it’s not quite the push as this fuel crisis has happened and our gas in Oz is a better choice after all.
We almost caved in. Well I almost did, change gas ducted heating to electric for under $9,000 with $5,000 govt payback.
Hubby dug his heels in and said no, doesn’t want to be all dependant on electricity, doesn’t trust it.
And I think it is better to have more than one type of energy.
Electricity for lights, fridge, TV, and the odd electric cooker (air fryer, toaster etc) and gas for heating and stove top cooking, and a free standing wood heater.
A house of variants!  Smiley

Oh I forgot to mention, LPG is .89c at servos!
Can always convert petrol vehicles to dual fuel.
We do have an old 4WD classic in dual fuel that hubby has used for going to work recently.
Letting the diesel vehicle rest a while until things have settled a bit with uprising of ways lately.

Last year a lot of LPG started disappearing from servos in the bid to rid gas usage …so dam stoopid!
….. .89c a litre!
There should be a push/incentive to convert cars to dual fuel or dedicated gas.
Why not?
There’s an abundance of gas in Oz yes or no?

An EV is useless to me.
I couldn't tow my caravan or go bush with ANY EV currently available.

My wife's car, a small ignis, get 5 litres per 100 KLM, so it's as cheap as to run.
My tow vehicle gats up to 7.5 litres per 100 KLM ( without the van) and has a range of over 1300 KLM on a tank.
This is critical when heading bush, I don't want to run out of fuel mile from nowhere.
My run around, an old KIA is also pretty good, around 6.5 to 8 litres per 100 KLM.

We live on the Central Coast.
Distance to just about anywhere is quite substantial.
We have family in Esk Qld, Sydney, Newcastle, Grafton and Melbourne, all quite a drive away and not good for EV usage.

Until EVs can get much better range ( with aircon and heating working and at cruising speed or towing) they are useless to me.
I also believe that they ARE NOT THE FUTURE as many EV enthusiasts believe.
But also ICE cars may be not long term either.

There are other opportunities out there, but until it all falls over, we won't see them.
And I believe (as a near 70 year old) not in my lifetime.

Re: tow bars on EVs, yesterday as I was driving, I was behind a Tesla, with a tow bar, I said to hubby, there’s a Tesla with a tow bar!
I told son about it and I he replied, it’s to tow a petrol generator!  Grin

Don’t get me wrong Gnads — i know about all these “Green Scams” that us tax payers are paying for..

It’s like when Rudderless brought out the $.60 a kilowatt feed in tariff on new solar systems — i did the figures and it made “economic” sense …

You either get on board with the scam because you are paying for it anyways in the form of higher power prices..

Everyone had a go at me then as well… but what i ended up with was NO power bill saving us $1500 a year and also getting paid $1500 a year to feed in at .60c

A $3000 dollar turnaround…

If diesel runs out i can’t get to work - if i have an EV i can because there is no way the government will let electricity supply run dry.. Political Suicide..

My 4x4 does 10lt to 100ks - i do a “minimum” of 500ks a week - 26,000ks a year “minimum” - so at $3 a litre in Fuel thats a “Minimum” of $7800 in fuel costs a year..

I need to get my 41K back…

6 years = $46,800

Battery Warranty is 8 years - 160,000 Ks

Now - we usually drive the mrs VW T-Cross on weekends as it does just over 5lts per 100

Not anymore — the more we drive the EV the faster it pays itself off…

——

Ok - the climate change malarkey?

Totally bullshit..

The same nuffies that fall for this lie also fall fell for the C19 HOAX…  they have no critical thinking and await their orders from MSM TV - which any sane person would not watch…

Accept for the Grand Final Football - Bathurst - Australian MOTO GP and also the 4 wheeled GP… thats it..

Im keeping the Pajero to tow the caravan - its diesel
Keeping the VW T-Cross - Unleaded
Keeping the EV - Electricity

We are future proofing ourselves from our traitorous governments/politicians/faceless bureaucrats ..
