A time when people were nowhere near as selfish (and stupid) as they are today.

Just like lockdowns, masks and even mentioning something like the C(ovid) word these days, any hint that the government might be thinking about reintroducing something like conscription will result in protests, riots and civil disobedience on a massive scale from the majority of the population.

And there's nothing our pathetic government(s) could do to stop it. And they know it.

Governments of today really are afraid (but only when it comes to certain things, so it would seem).
