I'm pretty sure Anthony Albanese and the rest of our useless pollies would have about the same amount of intestinal fortitude when it comes to bringing back conscription as they would have for bringing back compulsory masks and lockdowns even if infected people were dropping like flies in the streets nowadays.

Highly unlikely. It's a huge process to reintroduce it. Things are nowhere near bad enough that we need conscripts.

Hypothetically, if it were for the Iran war, good luck getting the population to show up and fight for a US-Israeli fueled conflict. Not a chance people are going to war for anybody else other than their home country.

We have no chance of seeing that happen as well regardless of how bad the petrol shortage gets (the pollies probably think it's a good idea but I'm pretty sure they're all scared sh!tless thinking about the huge backlash they would get from the population).

In the 1970s there WAS rationing:

Odd-Even Rationing: In Australia and the US, motorists could only buy petrol on specific days based on whether their license plate ended in an odd or even number.

And we refined our own fuels back then.
