The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has effectively been shut down following the Trump administration’s decision in January 2025 to freeze funding, place staff on administrative leave, and halt programs. The agency’s website and social media were taken offline, and its operations were suspended, with reports indicating that hundreds of thousands of lives have already been lost due to the abrupt withdrawal of humanitarian and health aid.
Atul Gawande, a Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health professor and former USAID global health official, stated that the shutdown has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths from malnutrition and infectious diseases, citing a documentary, “Rovina’s Choice,” that highlights the human toll. The Center for Global Development estimated that 500,000 to 1 million lives have been lost due to reduced outlays, with potential deaths rising to 1.6 million annually if aid commitments remain frozen.
Other experts and former officials warn of long-term global consequences, including weakened U.S. soft power and increased vulnerability to disease outbreaks. A House resolution introduced in January 2026 cites 600,000 deaths in one year, with two-thirds being children. The shutdown has been described as a deliberate dismantling of a key foreign aid institution, driven by conspiracy theories and political purges, with Elon Musk playing a prominent role in the campaign to eliminate USAID.
Trump and his monkey are mass murderers.
