Formula One fans erupted into chaos after the final race of the Australian Grand Prix, with crowds storming sections of the track and ripping up signs, barriers and anything they could carry was souvenirs.

Some joked they just wanted a piece of the circuit to take home, while others laughed they were simply getting their money’s worth after paying premium prices for the Melbourne event.

For fans who attended Albert Park this weekend, the excitement came with a costly surprise, with simple meals and drinks inside the circuit soaring well past $30.

At American-style food stall Meat Frankie, a cheeseburger and fries will set fans back $27, while a classic sausage sizzle with fries costs $25.

But what is more astonishing to many Aussie F1 fans is the price for a single sushi roll.

At Sushi Hub, a fresh salmon and avocado roll costs $8, while the crispy chicken avocado roll costs $7.50.

That’s roughly $2 to $3 more than what many customers would expect to pay at a typical Sushi Hub store outside the event.

“It’s definitely too expensive,” one fan said.   Sad

“I got a sushi roll from a chain I get sushi from all the time. Usually, the rolls are about $4, but here I paid $7.50 for one sushi roll.”

Drinks aren’t much cheaper.   Sad

A beer is priced at around $13, while bottled water costs $6 and soft drinks start from $6.50.

It means a typical burger, drink and snack lunch for F1 fans could easily push past $45 to $50 a day.

Sushi Hub sells sushi rolls for $8 at the Melbourne Formula 1.

And for families attending the event, that bill can quickly climb well over $200 across one day.

While many fans said they expected to pay a premium at a major international sporting event, others admitted the prices were still a shock.

One group of friends said the food prices at the F1 were “a bit expensive”, but added it was something they had anticipated.

“It’s probably what you’d expect for an event like this,” one mate said.

“You expect to pay that at a festival,” another said.

Some attendees even came prepared, bringing their own food, assuming the food prices would be a little over their budget.

“We brought our own food,” one Mercedes-AMG fan said.

“I don’t think we’ve even gone over to look at the prices. We just assumed it would be expensive.”

“It’s too expensive,” her friend added.

Others said they were more focused on enjoying the Grand Prix spectacle than on worrying about the cost of lunch.

And don’t forget, the food costs are in addition to the ticket prices for the race weekend itself.

While one-day general admission tickets start from under $100, premium shaded grandstand seats can climb to well over $1000 for three days of action.

Cashed up F1 fans who want a top-tier experience can expect to pay $10,000 across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.   Shocked

Porsche, Ferrari, and Mercedes are just a few of the brands offering exclusive F1 suites, all of which sold out rapidly to customers seeking a premium experience.

Food and alcohol are included in the ticket prices, as are gifts and VIP appearances.
