Bees ain’t bees….
Mar 8th, 2026 at 10:02am

I was reading up about the pristine Kangaroo island off the coast of South Australia.

Ligurian bees! Introduced in the 1800s from Italy.
Apparently like no other bees anywhere else in the world!

I’m going to kangaroo island later in year but in meantime, will order their honey to see what it’s all about. Once I get the order I will give my opinion.

Australian bees seem to reflect the Australian way of life. There was a study done on bees and Australian bees started later in the mornings than other bees and visited less flowers than european bees during the day.

My favorite bee is the blue banded bee, I won an award for a photograph of a blue banded bee in flight.

Australian bees honey is much sweeter but production is very low. They also not as robust as Euro bees.

We have plenty of  green bees here, they go for tomato plants flowers.

You are right Tallowood, since these bees in Kangaroo island are from Italy circa 1800s, I’ve now received a few different honeys from Kangaroo island to try out, first one is the creamed honey, it’s a beautiful pearly colour, very stringy when handling it with knife or spoon, but not as sweet as Oz bees honey as you wrote.
I’ve never tasted a honey like this! It’s as if I’ve been used to very sweet honey all my life.
I will eventually open up the other jars to try and will comment on them.

That’s really bad and heartbreaking news!  Cry
Three million bees?!!
We as humans cannot live without bees.

As some comments said….if there is a Go-fund-me I’m happy to donate.

Keep an eye on this Greg and let me know.

Yes. Humanity is dependant upon bees more than any other species, more so that cattle, sheep and even fish.
If bees go extinct, we're pretty stuffed.

You know what’s a worry…Adelaide and around Kangaroo island is an algae bloom problem affecting people and animals etc. lots of dying fish, kangaroos painfully jittering to death until some decided to kindly euthanise them out of their misery.
Kangaroo island has always been proud of their pristine environment but now with this algae bloom and toxicity it’s a worry.
Hope the bees will survive.
