Pole position time was 3.5 seconds slower than last year.

Mercedes having 8/10s of a second in qualifying over next team is huge as shown by Kimi dropping to 7th then recovering for 2nd.

Other Mercedes powered teams unlikely to have same engine tune program as factory team which is why they were so far off the pace.
It's not unusual for factory suppliers to give slightly inferior equipment to customers.

Pecking order looks like
Mercedes
Ferrari
Red Bull
McLaren

If Mercedes still have a big gap in China then George should win championship

3.5 seconds?

The new cars are of a woke type  -
hybrids with heavy batteries to drag around.
They are homosexual cars unfit for formula 1.

They should go back to the V10s of yesteryear.

Yes. Poofterism.
With any luck they'll be using horse chariots next.
It might be bigger than Ben Hur.

Real men drive in the Dakar. That's a real race that actually goes somewhere.

The public want cars that a real man would drive -

a V10 engine with a turbo or supercharger.

Race starts in about 30 minutes.

My prediction: Kimi will muck up the start, and George will take the lead quite easily.

Leclerc and Hamilton will overtake Kimi and be right up George's rear end.

Max will have a bad start too, and will struggle to be in the top six.

Final results:

1.Russell (Mercedes)

2. Leclerc (Ferrari)

3. Antonelli (Mercedes)

Liam Lawson will be one to watch.

Well, I got that wrong.

Kimi had a good start - well done.

Both McLaren cars broke down before they even got onto the track - Norris and Piastri both out   Sad

Must be crap cars if they can't even cope with smooth tarmac.
Darkar cars break down due to rough terrain and conditions.
Real racing cars for real men.

Fantastic race.

Kimi won!

Just 19 years old, and now he's a Grand Prix winner.

Fantastic effort.

Well done to Mercedes today.

P1 and P2 in qualifying.

Piastri is P3.

Looking forward to tomorrow's race.

Kimi on pole should be a Mercedes walkover.

George complaining about oversteer so he might struggle in race.

Pole position time is 1.795 seconds slower this year about 120m track distance per lap.

Race at 1pm today (Perth time).

https://www.formula1.com/en/racing/2026/japan

I wanna see Oscar get some points.

A podium with Antonelli, Russell, and Piastri would be good - in any order.

I'd like to see Max in the top five too - he's struggling with the new car.

Good to see Hamilton more competitive this year too.

Poor old Max, that Red Bull car is not up to it at this stage.

Toto looks quite happy these days.
