We always paid far too much for petrol and diesel –
twice want the Yanks pay at the bowser.
It’s all due to direct and indirect taxes.

Australia could have affordable fuel, all we need is a intelligent leader like Trump who would drill baby drill.

Trump derangement syndrome
Fareed Zakaria defined the term as "hatred of President Trump so intense that it impairs people's judgment"

Lets check in at 5pm on 23rd July 2025 then at 5pm on 30th July

That is irrelevant.

Quite low, in comparison to other OECD countries.

The tax Australians pay on petrol is among the lowest in the OECD group of advanced economies.

How has the price if diesel affected your travel plans?

Since retirement, we have been going away regularly ( over 100 days away last year)
We had planned a couple of trips this year, more than last, but....

I plan our trips based on accom costs and fuel.
We are now self funded retirees, so money is tighter than when I was working.
The April trip was costed at around $600 to $700 in fuel alone.
This is now nearly double that or more $1200 to $1400 because of the fuel costs.
Accom is reasonably stable, but is now less than a quarter of the cost of the fuel.

How is it that accom is half the cost of getting there?
I get reasonable milage with the van attached 15 to 17 litres per 100 KLM.

We looked at just driving there and staying at motels instead, but motels are getting ridiculous and any savings in fuel are eaten up in accom.
This is really stuffing up our retirement.

NOT HAPPY JAN

In an energy rich country like Australia our fuel should be free… but we have been sold out…

1: LPG is still around $1 - could you do a conversion?

2: if you are self funded retirees you are not limited to earning extra income..

Why not get a casual job?

Why not do the lollipop at a school crossing 🚸?

$40 an hour @ 4 hrs a day - 2 hours in the morning 2 hours in the afternoon $160 a day - $800 a week..

40 weeks of the year = $32,000 a year…

This gives you 12 weeks a year for holidays

It also gives you the middle of every week day to do whatever you want to do…

It gets you out of bed each school day and keeps you off the piss until after 4.30pm… lol

All you need is a working with children card…

I've done with working.
I get a part pension, enough to get some benifits that save me quite a bit.
But if I earn too much, actually quite a little, they cut it off completely....no benifits.

Unlike our senior public servants and politicians, we are very limited in how much we can have.
We have been breaking into our savings to travel, but we want to leave a good legacy to our kids and grandkids.
Our home is now valued at well over 1.2 mil and we owe nothing, so excluding any catastrophe, we should help our kids and grandkids quite a bit.

So, we will restrict our travel, a bit, and hope the morons running this once great country, get their act together.

Why are you only focused on the USA?

Why not Hong Kong, Denmark, Singapore, Norway, France, Ireland, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, etc.?
