For all those people buying Jerry cans:

It's very dangerous to store petrol -
its flash point is at at minus 43 degrees C.
The fumes can leak out and be ignited by
a spark of static electricity or metal striking concrete.
Diesel is much safer.

Google AI:

The flash point of a fuel is the lowest temperature
at which it releases enough vapor to ignite,
with gasoline having a very low flash point of roughly -43 C.
and diesel having a higher, safer flash point of 52C to 96C
This metric determines handling, storage, and transport safety.

I predict fires and explosions in garages around Australia.

Meh.

I think there should be health and safety adverts on TV and radio about it.
OH&S is important.

What if the Jerry can is not sealing properly
or they are using a cheap petrol or non regulation container?
Are they storing it in a cool place?

If people are filling Jerry cans (is that a racist term?) at petrol stations, they should be given a Safety Data Sheet.

Somehow, I don't think that's happening.

It's not - totally uncontrolled and used by ignorant people.

I agree.

And, even if it was I'm sure most or all of the sheets would be treated the same way as the COVID-19 information sheets that were being given to "returned travellers" upon arrival at Perth Airport (and probably the rest of Australia's airports) 4 or 5 years ago.

Thrown into the nearest bin. Unread, of course.

I'm waiting to see what happens when all these idiots with their hoarded fuel at home discover that petrol in a sealed container like a jerry can has a shelf life of between 3 and 6 months (at 20 degrees Celsius - less time if the temperature is higher).

That's if they don't blow their homes and themselves up first, of course.

With winter here soon it will last 3 or 4 months I suppose?

I once had petrol go stale after 2 months over summer in a cheap plastic petrol container.
It had been sitting in a hot shed.
I mixed some fresh petrol into it before it could work in a motor mower.

Speaking before Monday’s national cabinet meeting on the Iran War-generated energy crunch, Mr Crisafulli said the Taroom Trough field had the potential to produce “hundreds of millions of barrels” of oil.

“There’s potential for a veritable sea of domestic oil right here in Queensland,” he told the Liberal National Party’s annual State Council.

“We must promise ourselves, as a nation, never again will we be vulnerable entirely to foreign conflicts injuring our energy security.

“For too long, the national conversation about mining has treated the industry as something we should be embarrassed about.

“It’s been a political football, because it was a politically easy choice of the day.”

You might be thinking in terms of engine oil going watery during the winter months. I tend to go have my car serviced after the winter months. Petrol will go bad after some months. I am not a mechanic -- therefore, I would not know when the petrol is of poor quality. But, if you leave the petrol in your car for a month, you car might not start.

Take your petrol in a can and ask your local Aborigine oracle to give it a few sniffs. He'll tell you if it's good to go.

...minus the amount you put in the can.

It’s only suddenly dawning on the elite that this will impact far beyond simply getting to work.

The costs of all goods and services are going to skyrocket.

If you think the pandemic protests were terrible I don’t believe this country has seen the levels of violence and protests or poverty that are coming unless the government can find a solution.

It's been how long since the first 'outbreak' of what is inevitably going to happen in regards to a economic crisis on par with pandemic COVID?
And yet they still diddle saddle like headless chickens 🐔 to take immediate progressive action! while it just gets obviously worse.
They're like the Mayor of Amityville Island "Don't panic, there is no shark 🦈, you'll scare away the tourists (chum)!" Angry
