The fuel crisis - my thoughts:

Both sides of politics are responsible for the mismanagement -
they have run Australia like a 3rd world country.

This fuel crisis should teach us all a lesson.
We need to decide what we want to be -
what are we in the world today?
We own an entire continent that is rich in resources.
We only have to provide for 28 million people
with a whole continent to back us up.

We sit on 42 years’ worth of shale oil reserves.
https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/australian-economy/map-shows-brutal-trut...

US$60 per barrel is generally considered the breakeven point
where US shale oil production is sustainable.
That's a reasonable price even if from time to time imported oil
would be cheaper but we could use a mix of both -
we could be energy independent.

As for power stations – we export gas that is used in
power stations overseas – why don't we use it for power stations here?
We could have cheap energy and we have a huge amount of gas.

Then there is coal – look at the Bowen basin in QLD -
we have an astronomical amount of the highest quality Anthracite coal -
60,000 square kilometres.

We should have been better prepared for oil shocks.

Haven't heard that one, lee.

Got a link?

You're right. It wasn't Kamala it was AOC. That's why I framed it as a question. Wink

What is going on with the supply chain?

Will the USA allow us to buy some USA refined fuel?
Is any on the way?
Are we on our own?

Has Trump hung us out to dry?

His advisers, those he hadn't already fired, warned him about this, yet he took no action to secure the Strait before starting his attacks on Iran.

We are paying the price for his incompetence.

It doesn't matter that he keeps saying "Nobody knew".

He just didn't listen.  He was warned.

So yes, he has hung us out to dry, with the rest of the world.

He's also obliterated a lot of the soft power the US had via USAID, so I don't know how, if ever, the US will be able to recover on the global stage.  Their reputation is certainly down the drain.  This idea that Trump would bring the world to respect the US again has been just another promise to add to his list of failures.

He didn't make any of those decisions on his own.

So!?

He's the President.  The buck stops with him.  It was his executive order that created DOGE.

Or was it an autopen?

Why is it Trump's fault, crybabies? 😭

It's already been laid out, repeatedly, and in more detail than this argument frankly deserves.

Every supposed justification for this war traces back to one of two realities. Either it exists because Donald Trump unilaterally shredded the nuclear agreement negotiated under Barack Obama, or it was materially worsened by that decision to the point where escalation became inevitable.

That isn't spin, it isn't partisan framing, it's causality.

You don't get to detonate the constraints, dismantle the inspections regime, reintroduce maximum pressure, and then act surprised when the situation deteriorates into open conflict. That outcome was baked in the moment the deal was torn up.

Inescapable fact.

It was also in Project2025.

If it weren't for Trump, diplomacy would have prevailed and war, all this needless death and global suffering wouldn't be needed.

Absolute BS. Iran has been behind all the global Islamic terrorism for decades.

Its about time their bluff was called.

All you leftards have got is softcock appeasement.

Roll over woof woof.

So you would propose this is a war to stop Terrorism, stopping Iran, stopping their ability to terrorism, is the goal of this war?

I assume you would be furious that Trump funded $8-9 billion of Iranian terrorism then?

Speaking of rolling over and calling bluffs, who in this gambit backed down after their bluff was called?

TACO?

That is an inescapable fact.

While Albo and Labor are in power, the buck stops with them, they aboslutely should have done better.

But we're only in this mess, at this point in time, because Trump misjudged and ignored all the warnings about going to war with Iran and is the first President in a long list who was too weak to stand up against Israel who have been wanting to start this conflict for decades.

If it wasn't for Trump, we wouldn't be in this mess today.

To all those who supported and continue to support Trump.  This is on you.  I don't want to hear a peep out of you when it comes to fuel prices, shortages and food insecurity.  You got what you wanted, go starve quietly in the darkness.

You will not be forgiven.

There is also a lot to be said for the Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison governments reducing our oil reserves even further, BUT, around these parts, it seems we don't actually expect them to do anything, so it's only Albo that we'll hold responsible for this.

He, in ~3 years is expected to do more, while working towards economic recovery from COVID, than the Coalition in their nearly 10 years in office.

Same old story.

Blame Trump Roll Eyes

We've ALWAYS been in this mess since the late 70s.
You're just upset that Trump has brought our mess out into the open and no longer under the rug.

World War has always been inevitable. Taking action is the only way for us to escape it's cage. Better we face this problem NOW before the likes of many nations at war come to head.

Yes - we can also blame Albo because there was a warning of this war
back in June 2025 - the 12 day war.
Closing of the Strait of Hormuz was always on the cards -
Albo did nothing to increase our oil reserves.

And TERRORISM and all that it has done is on YOU.

I'm betting SK & Pecca blame Trump for those who died at Bondi.
Even those who were not Jewish.
