Distressing videos have emerged of gay and bisexual teenagers lured through dating apps and violently bashed in Sydney by young people linked to a resurgent Islamic State network - raising questions about whether the threat was underestimated before the Bondi attack.

Five teenagers have been convicted over filmed assaults in Strathfield Park and other suburbs, with police alleging links to the same extremist network connected to the Bondi massacre.

Court evidence shows victims were targeted with homophobic slurs and left unconscious, with footage shared in chat groups bearing IS slogans.
