The US Treasury Department is revoking the general license authorizing the sale of Iranian oil, Reuters reported, citing a source.

Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz were completely unacceptable to the United States and will have consequences.

Against this backdrop, the price of Brent crude rose above $75 per barrel.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia accused Tehran of attacking a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military command said it struck more than 60 small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping.

CENTCOM had earlier posted that the strikes were "to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway".

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the new attacks on Iran were "absolutely necessary. When you have a ceasefire and Iran is basically violating the ceasefire, I think it is totally crucial that the US forcefully react," Mr Rutte told reporters before a summit of NATO leaders in Ankara.
