Demographic suicide news
The radical Greens, with 34-year-old plumber Hannah Spencer as the candidate, emerged victorious after saturating the area with billboards and leaflets urging to “vote Green for Gaza”.
The Green Party – led by the eco-populist Zack Polanski and a distinct shift from environmental concerns to committing to banning landlords, opening up Britain’s borders and providing all arrivals with a wage without any need to work – has won its first by-election in British history. But the result was mired in controversy. Mr Farage said allegations of family voting raised “serious questions about the integrity of the democratic process in predominantly Muslim areas”.
He said the “election was a victory for sectarian voting and cheating”.
Independent observers Democracy Volunteers reported “concerningly high levels of family voting”, the highest in the group’s 10 years of observing elections. They said they watched 545 people voting and saw 32 cases – nine in just one polling station – where men would be telling women in the booth how to cast their vote.
The Gorton section of the seat is up to 97 per cent non-white and majority Muslim while the Denton component is categorised as nearly all-white, and political analysts show Denton swung to Reform while Gorton heavily backed the Greens.
Ms Spencer hit the campaign trail with her four greyhounds, handing out leaflets written in Urdu with herself pictured in a keffiyeh.
Interesting.
In Oz, the Greens are stuck on c. 12%, while ON has soared in the polls from c 3% to c.20% - rattling the Coalition.
The reason for this is described in a term I first heard on radio today: "outrage economics", ie, the collapse in support for mainstream political parties who are failiing to address the c-o-l pressures experienced by ordinary people.
Few on the political spectrum believe the Greens can tax the rich (quite apart from Conservatives who don't support it), hence the turn to simplistic solutions like banning immigration to solve the c-o-l crisis.
Meanwhille Alan Kohler tells us the only way to reduce inequality is to tax capital and inheritence: see the latest MMT post.
While you prefer to play identity politics, and Brian is wedging the Greens over the insane AUKUS project - which SA thinks is a good thing because of the huge investment at Port Adelaide, despite the fact the Port becomes a target in any war over Taiwan.
