Sarin is a highly toxic, synthetic organophosphorus nerve agent discovered in Germany in 1938 by I.G. Farben scientists for pesticides and named after its creators (Schrader, Ambros, Ritter, and von der Linde). Chemist Gerhard Schrader synthesized it in 1938. Nazi Germany's sarin production was about 10 tons. and it is a nerve agent that causes death within minutes. IG Farben successor companies are BASF, Bayer, and Hoechst (now part of Sanofi) with global operations.

US and UK scientists used information from Germans about Sarin for defence research in the 1940s-50s. The Nazi death camps were amazingly useful and the dead Jews and gypsies offered value for money.
