Australia, like other countries, has alliances, friendly countries as well as hostile and antagonstic opponents.

For 40 years after WWII it was the US and the Western aliance versus the commies.
Now it's the US and the Western alliance (weak as it is) versus still the commies and the Muslims.

Yes, with the steady demographic transformation of Austrlai, the alliance may change, althougfh I am not sure which demographic will prevail - Chinese, Indian or Muslim. Seeing Chinese infertlity, I am not betting on the Chinese. But China doesn't need to occupy anyone to dominate.
