It's said that rights to protest are not specified in NSW. But one right is defined:
'In NSW, police can arrest you without a warrant if they suspect on reasonable grounds you committed an offence and it is necessary to stop, identify, or secure you (LEPRA 2002). Officers must state you are under arrest, identify themselves, caution you, and can use reasonable force.'

Police have evidently grossly failed that process at Town Hall. Was it Minns or the Commissioner who dictated the change? Are they thinking they are copying Trump's ICE agents? In any case, civil order and cohesion are damaged when police are uncivil and everyone then loses.

Yep, they won't speak to the police in English. That happened all the time when my son was in the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad. Whenever they would try to question muslim gang members suspected of crimes, the mussos would only jabber away amongst themselves in Arabic. They did it ALL the time.

Until ... the police ended up with someone who could speak Arabic. And after some fruitless questioning by police, this new addition to the squad, said I think you should take in Ibrahim for questioning because all the others are saying we'll cover for you.

That made the mussos suddenly sit up and take notice, lol.

'Following the receipt of a significant number of complaints, the independent Law Enforcement Conduct Commission has decided that it is in the public interest to investigate the police operation at Sydney Town Hall and surrounds on the evening of Monday 9 February 2026, including incidents of alleged misconduct on the part of NSW police officers against persons attending that location for a protest.'
