I like  quite a bit of what frank wrote.
We are now entering the century of" you can't be too safe" and " pleasure yourself with sugar, porn and comfort ".

It's a backward step for a species which has got to where it is by courage and grit.

While not addressing how the arts glommed onto each and every global infatuation this century, let’s do take Black Lives Matter. All seven new productions on Broadway in 2021 were written by black playwrights. Publishing went into overdrive to promote as many black writers as these companies could get their hands on. Even period dramas embraced casting “colourblind” by rhetorical convention alone, given that the racial substitution works in only one direction. Presumably planting “diverse” actors in British historical re-enactments helps young Britons whose country was ethnically homogenous for a thousand years regurgitate the American truism that the UK, too, “has always been a nation of immigrants”; see Les Mis, Wolf Hall, and Bridgerton.

In Britain, whose black population is 4 per cent, over half of TV adverts were abruptly stuffed with black actors. In dramas and procedurals, the few sympathetic white characters were always in interracial relationships, and wise police detectives were always black women.

You’d think a group thumbnailed as “creatives” would have the odd original bone in their bodies. With every social obsession that spreads around the world in seeming seconds thanks to you-know-what, how is it that people self-selected as inventive operate as an undifferentiated mob and do nothing but imitate one another? After all, their very jobs are to come up with new ideas and fresh angles in a competitive marketplace where attention is gold dust and novelty is therefore prized. In the face of mass conformity, why haven’t creatives been creative?

The short answer is that artists are the same as everyone else. They’re pleasers. They respond to social pressure and are terrified of being ostracised. Artists are conformists because most people are conformists. Artists are cowards because most people are cowards. Bucking trends is dangerous, while going along with just about anything, so long as everyone else is going along with it, feels safe. Being ahead of your time, failing to get with the program even if the program entails mass delusion, doesn’t pay.

A related question is why veritably all the creative fields are colonised by left wingers. I can’t think of a single post-2016 novel that portrayed Brexit as a positive development. If they have a slant, most films, plays, visual art and song lyrics have promoted Palestinians, open borders, climate apocalypticism, racial grievance, socialism and gender ideology. The most ­obvious explanation? Artists of every stripe were once self-made, often self-taught eccentrics and free spirits who nurtured an inborn gift. Most contemporary creatives went to university (confession: as I did), whose monoculture is latterly so far-left as to fall off the edge of the world.

Otherwise, the answer is money. Demographically more likely to lean left these days, prosperous parents are more likely to have children who feel free to pursue careers with economically poor odds. The arts establishment also leans left, and London’s National Theatre is unlikely to stage your play if it deplores discrimination against straight white males. You’ll have a tough time securing a contract with one of the Big Five (except maybe HarperCollins, which will even publish me) with a novel whose valiant protagonist is a thinly disguised Nigel Farage.

Thus we have a raft of dystopian fiction about climate change (The Drowned World, The Deluge, etc.). But if our writers were true rebels, the odd speculative novel might instead portray a dark future in which the West embraces a misanthropic, technologically regressive eschatology that leads to deindustrialisation, bankruptcy, sky-high energy prices, and blackouts. Meanwhile, China deploys the same ideology to slyly sell the West the hardware to facilitate its own destruction. Record numbers of Westerners unable to afford heating freeze to death. Meanwhile, planetary greening proceeds apace and more temperate weather saves lives in harsh climes, but China takes over the world. The bitterest pill to swallow: the scientific construct that brought about the West’s demise turns out to be plain wrong.

It also always had a limpen, ratbag, deranged faction.

The latter is now dominant. The emotional incontinence, the irrational sloganeering, heretic denunciation, deranged preening are all.
There is no reasoning, only hurt emotions or loud demonstrations of emotional excess and correctness.
A hundred years ago this was called hysteria. Now it's infected most of the left.

In other discussions I've been warning the 'feminists' - those 'leftie women' - that once they get finished trashing the Western man and his rotten patriarchal society - they will be left to contend with the True Patriarchals who continue to breed like flies and whose 'men' will then invade and impose their hand maid's outfits on them all.  They they will know what they have wrought.

At a subconscious level, western women don't want the timid weak victim mentality loser that most western men have become.
The hirsute high testosterone boss from Middle Eastern countries had more appeal.
At least he has some self confidence and swagger
