Melbourne public housing tower residents win injunction against
eviction notices ahead of High Court bid

2h ago

...

In short:
Eviction notices have been paused for the remaining residents at three public housing towers due to be demolished in Melbourne's inner-north.

Homes Victoria says the delays will cost taxpayers millions of dollars each month.

What's next?
Lawyers for the remaining residents say they will take a class action to Australia's High Court, after it was thrown out by Victoria's Supreme Court last year.

About 32 households are thought to remain at a group of towers facing
imminent demolition in Flemington and in North Melbourne.

The towers — at 12 Holland Court, 120 Racecourse Road and 33 Alfred Street — are proposed to be redeveloped next as part of the state government plan to modernise 44 inner-city public housing sites to provide homes for more people.

So - where are all these people going to live?

I blame Albo and his mass uncontrolled immigration.

Read the new towers will be close together,
vertical slums.

They tried that in the 1970s in France to the north of Paris and all it did
was create a 10s of kms stretch of vertical ghettos full of crime:
drugs, rapes, muggings, prostitution, stabbings and murders.

Another thing to consider is the wasteful practice of building brick homes.

Houses can be built much cheaper using modern technology.

I must admit - bricks are not good during 3 and 4 day heatwaves -
they absorb the heat and it takes days for them to cool down -
even when the weather becomes cooler.
I get fed up with it at my place.
I'm considering a shade cloth for the brick walls but
just the air temperature will heat them up after 3 or 4 days.

There are many interesting videos on YouTube showing the construction of plywood and foam houses and the building of such framing as is required using light timber.
There is no wall framing at all, except for some interior walls and that can be done away with by using lighter ply/foam panels.

I remember in the 1970s when a demo building was erected using aluminium/foam panels and no framing, official opinion was that the structure would be unsafe without framing; the company then set fire to the building and when the fire burned out, having melted and consumed all the foam, the structure was still standing.
But don’t expect cheap factory kit homes in Australia, as vested interests and the political party that champions the workers will see that it never happens.

The answer is so obvious!

There are two sides to the "Supply and demand" equation.

We do need to build more new houses AND we need to cut immigration for a few years until the supply - demand has stabilised.

Migration as share of total population growth

Talk about not seeing the bleeding obvious.  Roll Eyes
