I don’t work for Coles or Woolworths or anywhere else that has job destroying ‘’’convenient’’ technology.

Using self checkout is contributing to unemployment, it’s helping to diminish the number of unskilled jobs.

If people refused to use them then they would not exist.
The only reason for their introduction was more profit for the companies.

How long do you sit in your car at service stations waiting for them to fill your car.

Good point, but in the days of service stations filling your tank they were only small operators and they didn’t have a large number of pumps, conversely the big supermarkets installed multiple checkouts and then reduced staff with self checkouts.

It's not a good point, actually, as we don't have a choice at petrol stations any more.

If we don't fill the car ourselves, we don't get petrol.

Coles and Woolworths stores (most of them) give you a choice.

My choice is the checkout with an operator every time.

They haven't got me trained like a monkey yet.

We use delivery a lot, for extra 15 or so dollars it saves time and supports local employment.

Actually some service stations still have driveway service and all of them will fill the tank for disabled drivers.

Yes, I was thinking about that after I made that post.

How does that work, exactly?

How does the station attendant know there's a disabled driver requiring assistance?

And then there's Lori's Fuel Station in Kelmscott who still do a full driveway service for everyone, not just disabled drivers.

Seriously?

I didn't know that petrol station even existed.

I don't think I've ever driven down that particular road.

Hey, Greg.

Lori's is on the corner of Railway Avenue and Owen Road.

The building with all the solar panels at the lower left used to be Kelmscott Tenpin Bowl where I worked for 2 years until it closed in May 2013. It's now Kong's Oriental Food Warehouse.

I used to drive past Lori's all the time on my way to and from the bowl which is how I knew Lori's was there.
