Yeah IGA seems more expensive but do have some goods that are unique such as freshly squeezed orange juice, hot food section, and the best Australian variety of nuts.
It’s the closest more convenient supermarket to me as I don’t feel like driving further through intersections, stop lights, etc as I live in rural green wedge area. Which mess I don’t get junk mail of course  Grin
And you are correct Baron, some check out personnel don’t seem to know about the policy but, I bet that’s intentional to not add that in their training. Then asking if we want a receipt further proves to me so receipts that show wrong pricing can’t be checked.

Value to customers comes last, if any at all.
I’m having to use my calculator now to check totals in docket receipts.
Because every new year it seems to go that much higher!
And most annoying when asked if I want a receipt… why the f… would I not want a receipt to check any over charges?
Today is a prime example, charged 13.98 instead of 11.98.
And a few days ago double charged $1 on a $1 item.
It’s adding up  Shocked in their favours!

So tell me….how many here, check their docket receipts?

Check mine every time. I always check the price of something before I take it to the checkout and know what the total will be so as soon as they ring it up I let them know if the price is wrong.

One thing I have a personal dislike for is when shops display two prices and one is for members.

Another Woolies owned company does that....

Dan Murphys

but you know - it usually costs you nothing to be a member.

I also reckon the “2 for $x” is a form of gouging.  Buy 2 packets of 50 Steel wool pads  for $6 or 1 packet for $4.50.    It may be OK on some items, but it always seems to apply to stuff you really only want one of.

I think one way of stopping unfair pricing is to break the chains up so the gains at the supermarket do not support those parts of the business that are failing.    Of course, it would need to be researched to establish gains and losses as a whole, but it must have some benefit

I always ask for the receipt at a big business/supermarket.

WK, have you figured out yet how the bureaucrats will decide what is a "fair" markup? Or is your job just to start multiple threads on a topic, not actually think about them?

It was in a question about high prices in our supermarkets and
how Aussie families can't afford apples and other basics.

I blame Labor.

I never thought I'd see the day when apples were considered a luxury
only for rich people.

They can afford apples. They just cannot afford one particular variety of apples at one particular supermarket at one particular time of the year. It used to be quite normal to only be able to get fresh apples for about a month every year. Now we have them year round (thanks coles), but the price varies a bit. People are so oblivious to this, and the obvious reason for it, that it makes the news when some politician notices and makes an idiot of themselves about it in parliament.

Any politician who tells you to vote for them so they can fix this 'problem' thinks that you are in idiot to be taken advantage of.

Ahh - but isn't it now the picking season for apples?
They should be super cheap.    Undecided

Don't know Bobby. Don't care. You do not need the government to tell you what to do here. Or me. You are smart enough to figure it out for yourself.

But I don't know -
it's difficult to buy freshly picked apples -
they tend to be sent straight to nitrogen filled cooling rooms
so they can be sold up to 9 months later and still appear fresh.

Even the local fruit shops seems to have those nitrogen ones all year round.

Do you need better instructions for doing the grocery shopping Bobby? Maybe some kind of government-appointed nanny to hold your hand while you ponder which apples to buy?

Do you have shoes with velcro, or can you manage laces?
