My brother-in-law was the Chief Scientist for the Defence Forces.  He was in charge during the decision.  He and I have had long conversations about the decision.  Basically his conclusion was that the French deal was a reasonable deal but ScoMo scotched it by lying to Macron so there was only the AUKUS deal left on the table.  He decided it was a reasonable deal considering how rarely the USA was to ordinarily trade it's nuclear technology.  They were never going to give their technology away, they were going to sell it and make a purchaser pay through the nose for it.  Overall we are getting access to advanced submarines that leave the French one for dead, nuclear reactors of advanced form and nuclear training of extremely advanced form.  Bobby wants to moan and carp about the cost, without understanding exactly what it is we are purchasing.  Tsk, tsk, tsk... Paul Keating doesn't agree -
did you see the long video of him speaking about it?

Who is more qualified to comment on the subject, Bobby? Paul Keating or an ex-chief scientist for the Defence Forces?  Get back to us with your reasonings.  Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Everything, not concerned with security matters, is public knowledge.  It is widely publicised in the media.  It is reported basically in the Defence forum if you'd care to search for them.  Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Hopefully based on scientific knowledge and recommendation, I would hope, Bobby.

The best?

Considering that specifications are classified top secret for all navies -

then we wouldn't know.      Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

It is widely publicised in the media.

'The Pentagon says its review into the AUKUS pact has identified areas to put it on its "strongest possible footing" — but the recommendations have not been released and might never be made public.. At least two of them would be second-hand Virginia-class submarines, but the deal says they would only be made available if the US did not need them for its own national security.'

If other decisions are made, such as Australia not getting any subs at all, it will not be made public and just maybe the US keeps the cash. Who knows, anything is something, or could be nothing instead.

Whenever I have a problem that no one can help me with I choose to wear my underwear on my head and walk around the local shops screaming at random people.

Someone always asks me if I am ok?

I also do this when I can’t pay for petrol.

Bobby know buggerall about Defence.  He is a danger.

Soren knows buggerall about most things. He is a Racist/Islamophobe/fool.

Armchair seems to know something about most he posts.

FD knows a lot about most that he posts.

I know a fair deal about computers/Defence/Genetics/Politics.

Why then have you abandoned the Defence forum, Bobby?  You know nothing about Defence, why not admit your ignorance?  Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

That's not the point. The q. is do people tell you anything or nothing.  Being OK is something but colour isn't the problem.
