There was a MAGA off-ramp. A window for those who claimed they were betrayed when Trump began abandoning his campaign promises almost immediately after securing a second term to leave the cult.
That window is closed. It has been long enough. It is now too late to take the red hat off.
The off-ramp existed before the Epstein files were suppressed and grotesquely redacted to erase Trump's name. It existed before federal agencies were leaned on to protect the powerful rather than expose the truth. It existed before ICE was unleashed as a roaming intimidation force, assaulting, terrorising, and now killing people, including US citizens, while openly disregarding constitutional rights.
It existed before the corruption became so brazen that it stopped pretending to be subtle.
Trump didn't just govern, he monetised the presidency. Personal enrichment through hotels and golf courses, foreign delegations funnelled into Trump properties, family members embedded in state power and trade discussions, pardons dangled, access sold, norms shredded. Public office was treated as a private revenue stream, and MAGA applauded because it was their guy doing the looting.
The off-ramp existed before the failed tariff regime and trade wars that functioned as a tax on ordinary Americans. Tariffs sold as "toughness" translated directly into higher prices for essentials. Inflation didn't fall on billionaires or Trump donors, it landed on groceries, fuel, housing and medicine. Everyday Americans paid more so Trump could cosplay as an economic nationalist while demonstrating no understanding of the mechanics.
It existed before affordability collapsed further under his policies that deliberately gutted healthcare support. Letting ACA credits lapse wasn't an accident, it was a choice, a choise he shutdown the government to protect that outcome. Costs rose, coverage fell, and families were told to cope while Trump offered slogans instead of solutions.
And now, after all of that, after the suppression of evidence, the erosion of rights, the corruption, the economic vandalism, the attacks on civilians, the war-mongering, and the sudden willingness to pour billions into overseas ventures and military spending while people at home can't afford insulin or rent, we are still expected to believe there is an exit?
No.
If none of this shook your support, then you didn't miss the off-ramp, you drove past it deliberately. You assessed child abuse allegations being buried, constitutional violations, state corruption, economic harm and violence, and decided it was acceptable so long as it was done in a red hat.
At this point, continued support isn't ignorance, it's endorsement.
And no, you don't get absolution later by quietly taking the hat off. You don't get to claim you "didn't know" once it becomes inconvenient or his aggression and war mongering destabilises not only global economies but the world, impacting us all, even here in Aus.
Your support helped normalise this. You enabled it and entrenched it.
History won't forget. Neither will the people harmed by it.
There are no further off-ramps. This is who those who remain, steadfastly supporting the abhorrent, have chosen to be.
