Australia eggs cost the most in the world
Jan 2nd, 2026 at 4:03pm

“ Global Comparison
According to data from April 2025, Australia's average egg prices surpass many other nations:
Australia: ~$7.63 USD per dozen
United States: ~$7.12 USD per dozen
New Zealand: ~$6.74 USD per dozen
Switzerland: ~$6.50 USD per dozen
Canada: ~$2.87 USD per dozen
UK: ~$4.45 USD per dozen
For comparison, some of the cheapest eggs in the world are found in countries like Pakistan ($1.16 USD) and India ($1.56 USD). ”

“AI

How?

Our eggs taste no better or worse.

Why do we pay so much?

I blame the American company AVIAGEN which I once worked for.
They own 90% of the global market and came to Australia to conquer.
The bought out Inghams when I was with them and having sneakily read Aviagen emails. The American mindframe of business is evil, childish and despicable.
I warned Biata, Struggles and other Australian Poultry Companies that Aviagen wants them gone because Americans, like China, Nihon, etc. Can't compete fairly.
Last I heard, the Australian Companies rallied together to some success.
But that was back around 2011.
I don't know what it's like now?

Many of the country’s listed as the cheapest have suffered bird flu?

It’s interesting the supply and demand business model in Australia.

Prices go  up due to lack of supply but never come down when supply levels return to normal in my experience?

Ok, this might explain the why we have the most expensive eggs in the world.

Jasin how many chickens did you “ sexting “ and do you understand that touching a chicken inappropriately will put them off laying?

I can only hope you wash your hands afterwards 😱

Australia isn't called Rip Off Rock for nothing.

USA: Food is cheap, but also saturated with low quality.
Aust: Food is expensive, but higher standards.

While a homeless person in USA can get a big burger for a $1
A snooty Lefty Aussie will pay $40 for parsley on a plate at Potts Point.

I can't stand Chicken 🐔🍗 anymore.
But I do love my eggs still and get them from a local kit farmer for $8 but they are high quality and golden orange yoke. Not supermarket yellow yoke.
I have raw egg for the brain and poached egg white for the body.
