That's very different.

That isn't an allegation from critics, it's Trump's own explanation. Even setting aside the fact they continued to be photographed together at private events afterwards, does this mean Trump was lying when he said it on Airforce One?  Or was he mistaken thanks to his cognitive decline? 

What's genuinely deranged is how MAGA has behaved around the Epstein files over the past five years. They built an entire moral identity around them. The files were treated as sacred text, unimpeachable proof that would finally expose the elites and vindicate every conspiracy, every grievance, every screamed accusation.

Then the files are released, heavily redacted in a way that very clearly attempts to minimise Trump's exposure, and suddenly, in 2025, MAGA decides the whole thing is a Democrat hoax. Fake. Unreliable. Corrupt. Except, of course, the parts mentioning Clinton. Those bits are obviously real. Trump's name appearing, fabricated. Clinton's name appearing, definitive proof.

That isn't scepticism. It's bad faith. Evidence only matters when it shields Trump or harms his enemies. Everything else is discarded on command, usually accompanied by a conveniently timed distraction, a Somali fraud case, a bout of military action, anything to redirect attention away from the cognitive dissonance.

There's no principle here, just loyalty. And loyalty, when it requires this level of selective blindness, stops being political and starts being pathological.

I honestly never thought I'd see MAGA shift from their QAnon days of every opponent being tied to child abuse, to then becoming the supporters of peadophiles arguing what is a child.

This is the poaching Trump was talking about here, as the reason why he and Epstein had their falling out.
