The first cracks of corruption for Albo Labor
Dec 7th, 2025 at 10:07am

“ Albanese defends Anika Wells over reports of taxpayer-funded travel expenses
Albanese has also defended a $100k expense for communications minister Anika Wells, a staffer and a public servant to join the prime minister and foreign minister Penny Wong in New York for a United Nations meeting.

Anika Wells was doing her job as the communications minister who is in charge of this world-leading, world-leading legislation, passed with bipartisan support, to give credit to Peter Dutton when he was opposition leader. And it was an important event. And it wasn’t just the event there, it was then the follow-up of people wanting to have meetings, have discussions, how is this going to work? What can we do to get buy-in here? When you’ve got Australia, a middle power, taking on these global giants.
The PM fields a series of calls about the flights, who was responsible and the size of the bill, particularly in the context of reporting today that Wells billed taxpayers $3,000 to fly her family to be with her at Thredbo, where Wells was there in her capacity as minister for an event associated with the Paralympics.

There’s family reunion entitlements, all of the travel within guidelines.
When pressed, Albanese continued to support his minister, saying the trip was “completely within rules”.

I’m saying it was within entitlements and Anika Wells was working on that trip as sports minister, participating the lifting up of para-sport.
Minister for communications Anika Wells.”

“ I don’t write the rules’: Wells, PM defend using taxpayer funds to bring family to ski resort
Labor is defending the sport and communications minister’s family reunion on the slopes after earlier revelations of six-figure claims for international travel”

Actually Anika Wello as elected to govern your job to write laws/ rules.

How long was she there....  two days - no need whatsoever for any 'family reunion'.

This is rorting pure and simple.

...... in breaking news on Fantasyland TV ...... Prime Minister Anthony Albonesandknees broke down on arrival at Canberra Airport - managing to get out between tears that he missed his family back in Marrickville... government agencies instantly moved to bring them all first class to Canberra ...

Dear leader Albo has come out today to defend her corruption.

Great to see Albo Labor party talking about themselves and Albo jumping in to say she’s done nothing wrong.

Great distraction from the homeless on our streets, the families living in cars, the businesses closing and the everyday cost of living crisis struggles everywhere in Australia the majority of Australians are suffering.

“ Anika did nothing wrong, we don’t write the rules , we are politicians, we all rort the taxpayers money “ .

Dear leader Albo brushed off criticism of his “ chosen one “ Anika  unfit for public service wells.

They should be made to pay their own expenses, and if they are legitimate work expenses they can claim them back through their tax returns like every other taxpayer

“ Then she was asked why she spent €569 for dinner before spending an additional €426 two hours later.

“I from memory we walked to a restaurant, we met with the ambassador, she briefed us on what we'd missed because obviously we were well not obviously but we were arriving a few days later than my counter,” Ms Wells said.”

“ sky news.

Ankio wells spent in one evening in Paris what the average family of four in her Brisbane electorate could only dream of budgeting for a month.

She is completely unfit to serve in government.

I hope Albo moves quickly to cut the first corruption scandal from his own government.

She is a disgrace to Queensland!

Albo: “I don’t write the rules."

sounds a hell of a lot like: "I don't hold a hose."  Roll Eyes

Wells, who is also the sports minister, reportedly took three trips to Paris in 12 months at a cost of $116,000, to attend major sporting events including the Rugby World Cup, Paris Olympics and Paris Paralympics.

She was authorised to spend $6,000 on meals for five days, with one dinner reportedly billed for $600.

"I recall sometimes I was eating a muesli bar in the car. These are big days," Wells said.

"I appreciate it looks a certain way because it's Paris, but that is where the Games were."

Wells was also questioned about using travel entitlements to attend a friend's birthday while on a three-day, $3,600 work trip to Adelaide in June.

"I met with my South Australian counterpart in part about the South Australian Sport Institute, where we opened a para unit," she said.

I seem to recall a fellow named Howard who attended every sporting event in over a decade including test matches at lords, tennis championships at Wimbldon various F1's race meetings football events in various codes.

Although Willis seems to be passing the rules she may be failing the pub test, However nobody seemed to care that Howard failed the Bruery test a dozen times each and every term.

The 2K cost for her family to attend the ski destination for a vald event seems reasonable the number of times there have been re unions does seem to stretch the point. Going to the US on the PM's request seems 100% ok.

I would expect that 80% of the Liberals would be doing the same or worse.

Reading this story they seem to build up a big bank number by quoting what looks to be a legitimate expense - 100K trip to the US with 3 staff for a UN meeting.

They then list some fairly piddly little costs of one or two K for family travel costs that pass the rules. Maybe we don't like this - BUT ?

Overall she may be stretching the point but really nothing much seems to be here.

I don't think that a sports minister being invited to sporting events is much of a surprise.

She’s come out on sky news and states neither her nor her staff had any after dinner drinks ($700 A)

The question I ask is if she nor her staff was there who did drink the Australian taxpayer paid alcohol?

And Denver, you are totally correct that we should never expect a higher quality of politicians no matter who you vote for.

They have always been corrupted and always will be?

Who drunk the Alcohol  ($700) Anika?

If it wasn’t you or your staff as you claim why did you sign off on the receipt?

If a Minister is invited to a sports fixture - is it necessary to stay for the five day Test and bring hubby along as well? Does she love cricket that much?  And what about doing her day job instead of moonlighting all the time?

Ball's chat.

Let's see - flit in, press the flesh, hang around to chat to a few disabled athletes for a photo shoot, then holiday until tomorrow's close of day then flit out?  And that desperately needs a 'family reunion'?  What an absolute load of cod's wallop.

And please - don't inspire a contest between the leeches to see who can get away with the most...

She needs to go - and the quicker the better.    These overseas jollies are not needed, not required and certainly not endorsed by the taxpayer.     If there is even a hint of family being treated to taxpayer provided travel or benfits she needs to visibly repay it - not this “I have paid it back…..etc”. Another one that needs to explain why he was in Hawaii, frolicing around in hawaiian print shirts and meeting US and Aus Navy people is Matt Keogh.    What an embarrassment to aussie Vets that is.  He is another that needs to be sent to the backbench and disendorsed next election.     Who is not getting tired of seeing these ar$ewipes travelling the world on our limited money

An opinion today:

Ley shopped, Wells worked — guess who the Libs attack?
Sussan Ley literally resigned after charging taxpayers for trips that doubled as property shopping sprees, yet the Liberals now howl about Anika Wells for travel that was within the rules. The hypocrisy is staggering.
🔍 SUSSAN LEY’S TRAVEL RORTS
• Gold Coast apartment scandal: In 2015, Ley used taxpayer-funded travel to Queensland, where she impulsively bought a $795,000 apartment from a Liberal donor. She claimed $3,125 for that trip.
• Pattern of trips: Over three years, she billed taxpayers for 18 Gold Coast trips costing $53,877.
• Resignation: Ley admitted her actions didn’t pass the “pub test” and resigned as Health Minister in 2017, despite most claims technically being “within the rules”.
• Voluntary repayments: She repaid some expenses but only after public outrage forced her hand.
🔍 ANIKA WELLS’S ALLEGED MISUSE
• Thredbo ski trip: Wells spent ~$3,000 so her family could join her while she attended a Paralympics event. This was allowed under “family reunion” rules.
• New York trip: Nearly $100,000 spent on flights for her and staff to promote Australia’s social media ban at the UN. Again, fully within guidelines and approved by the PM’s office. Wells was forced to book more expensive flights at short notice when having to deal with the 000 outage fallout prevented her flying to New York with the PM.
• Other claims: Trips to Adelaide (where she also attended a friend’s birthday), Paris for sporting events, and family flights to cricket and Formula One. All technically within entitlements.
• No resignation: Wells has defended her travel as legitimate ministerial work, and Albanese backed her, stressing compliance with rules.
⚖️ THE HYPOCRISY
• Ley vs Wells: Ley’s scandal involved personal property shopping on taxpayer-funded trips — a clear breach of community standards that forced her resignation. Wells’s travel, while politically damaging optics-wise, was within entitlements and tied to ministerial duties.
• Liberal outrage: Despite Ley’s own history, Liberal figures like Ley herself now attack Wells as “Air-Miles Anika”. The irony of a former minister who resigned over rorts leading the charge against Wells is impossible to ignore.
• Double standards: When it’s a Liberal caught misusing travel, they plead “within the rules” until resignation is unavoidable. When it’s Labor, they demand heads roll even if the travel is rule-compliant.

Yes, there is hypocrisy - and yes, the travel is rule compliant BUT $100K to spruik about Australia’s actions in enforcing social media bans that under 16 year olds are already telling all and sundry how to get around them DOES NOT pass the pub test either!     These "rule-compliant” and “family re-union” rorts need to be looked at.

Just as an aside, when I was with Defence in Darwin and my Wife was in Melbourne, we were allowed 4 “family reunion” visits per year where I could go to her, or She to Me.   The airfares HAD to be the best deal of the day - so you could be flying out of either place on a Red-Eye with Jetstar.  Pollies are SUPPOSED to use this as well

When politicians are invited to events do they “ have to attend “?

If they do attend and it at a huge expense to the taxpayer should not the invitee be expected to pay for their expenses to attend these events?

“ the guardian.

And she won't even pay it back.
Why?
Because Albo is saying "Nothing to see. Move on"
Why?
Because he knows that the Australian people in themselves can't do anything about it, nor will they do anything about it - lazily just whinging about it and nothing more. The whingefest has its 15 minutes of fame on the Media Show and is forgotten by next month... as always.

Could you see Australians rise up with protests and threaten political action against a corrupt government?
Hell no!
Could you see Australians rise up and threaten a Republic against the ALP and Leftism?
Hell no!

Australians are too lazy to take political action in their own hands and ALL PARTIES KNOW THIS and take full advantage of this.

Every month there is a public whingefest, that does the rounds on the Media Show, then it's thrown away to be forgotten - replaced with the latest whingefest over another corruption.

Face the fact, that beyond the Media Show pumping the hype.
AUSTRALIANS REALLY DON'T GIVE A FLYING F#@KBAT ABOUT IT.

Another excellent idea.

Worked fine during Covid?

I’m just trying to find a positive solution.

If the united nations ask Anika wells ( aka the Banyo Bandit) to fly to NY and give a  speech.

They should pay for it not us mugs.

If the AFL invited her to the grand final then they should cover her  outrageous expenses?

If there is no definitive evidence that  these invites are of benefit to the Australian taxpayer we should not pay and the invitee and sponsors should wear the costs.

I can imagine  that suddenly the invitees would stop being sent out very quickly!

Dean Alston's cartoon in today's The West Australian.

However, I'm sure Anika isn't worried about this in the least - she's got the big distraction of the social media ban for under 16's starting on Wednesday and no doubt we'll be seeing and hearing her spout endless BS about that for weeks or even months.

The Canberra grift is bad but what makes it worse is
that it's all with over a $trillion of borrowed money.

Our grandchildren and their children will be paying it off 50 years from now.

The politicians and public servants are irresponsible,
reckless grifters, confidence tricksters and parasites.

On the list of damage done to Australia by politicians this would not be in the top 500.

The sell out of workers to big business would be a much better contender. They stole 4 generations of progress and productivity and gave the lot to about 0.5% of the population resulting in 50 years plus of stagnant wages and progress for Australians. From the most successful productive period in human history all the profit went to so few and the people got less than nothing we went backwards. The politicians sold us out for a few tiny kick backs.

“Anika Wells' scandal deepens … revelations that she failed to declare, within the required period, a string of free tickets to A-list events, including the Oasis concert, the Logies and the AFL grand final,” Ms Markson said.  “The Courier Mail reports this is in breach of parliamentary rules, increasing the pressure on Anika Wells as she tries to survive the scandal.”

She has to pay it all back and resign.

Albo  has created an absolute monster by promoting Wells to be a minister.
Albo needs to take responsibility for his “ team”.

Senator Farrell – the 71-year-old minister and Labor powerbroker – on Monday evening defended more than $123,000 in family travel claims over almost four years, arguing the system he regularly uses allows single parents, young mothers and carers to more easily serve in parliament.

Family reunion entitlements permit federal MPs and senators to claim as many as three return business class flights per year for members of their family, on the proviso that the travel is between the MP’s electorate or home state and a destination other than Canberra. Travel to and from Canberra is capped at a value of nine business class fares for spouses and three economy flights per dependent child.

Among the litany of contentious expense claims are return flights for Ms Wells’ husband to attend the 2022 AFL grand final. Mr McCarthy jetted to Melbourne on September 24 and returned to Brisbane the following day at a cost of $2913.68, according to IPEA records.

It just keeps on keeping on ...

Wells left car waiting for hours at NRL grand finals, costing more than $1200

Sport Minister Anika Wells left a Comcar limousine waiting for nearly 10 hours while she attended the 2022 NRL and NRLW grand finals, costing taxpayers more than $1200.

This masthead also revealed on Monday that the embattled sport and communications minister had charged taxpayers nearly $1000 for a Comcar to wait for her while she was at the Australian Open tennis. But the cost of her Comcar usage at the rugby league grand finals was even higher, totalling $1287.76, according to Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority data.

She accepted the ethical point over the rule and paid it back and went on to minimalist all her travel expenses after that.
There are a few good ones in there.

Anika the minister for sports and rorts has referred herself to a government agency for investigation.

She has zero credibility now so will just keep rorting like the A grade thief she is.

I can’t blame Albo for saying nothing and doing nothing.

Pretty sad that with so many Australians suffering so much atm this is the behaviour our politicians not only accept but approve of ☹️

Jimmy Charmers has announced due to  budget constraints the federal government is removing the $300 electricity allowance and all Australians need to grow up and begin to pay our own way!
I just feel an immense sadness for those people struggling in this country.

“Wayne Swan wasn't "sacked" from his prominent roles but rather retired from Parliament in 2019 after a distinguished career, including serving as Treasurer, and stepped down as Australian Labor Party (ALP) President in 2025, ending his political life after controversies emerged regarding his chairmanship of Cbus super fund's handling of insurance claims. He left Parliament to focus on family and other interests, but later faced scrutiny over delayed payouts at Cbus, leading to calls for his return to public inquiry. Which he refused.”

I note Anika this week refused to answer questions from a  inquiry regarding the triple 0 outage that has killed now 4 Australians.

She learn from the best, aye?

Political expenses
Anika Wells

One comment in The Age nails it:

This all needs to be viewed through the eyes of a pensioner who can’t afford their power bills and put food on the table. Somebody who would never be able to imagine what it would be like to fly the pointy end.

The family reunion allowance, viewed reasonably, is there to facilitate family connections for MPs when they’re sitting in parliament, in Canberra. Not when they’re going to major sporting events. To say that it’s within the guidelines and to refer spending to the independent umpire, instead of simply copping it on the chin and repaying the money, shows us there’s a chasm between where Wells and the public are on this issue.

To me, the worst of Wells’ misjudgments are the meal and drinks charged to the taxpayer in Paris involving the French ambassador and a couple of public servants. There’s absolutely no way taxpayers should have paid for this and that Albanese thinks it’s appropriate reflects his mindset that it’s worse to lose a minister to scandal than it is to have and follow a basic set of scruples.

Reported today that Federal politicians have used 4 million in taxpayer funds to pay for family members to join them on holiday.

I can confidently say that nothing can happen to Anika because they are all guilty of the same rorts.

Who is this independent agency that makes these rules?

Who is responsible? How are they appointed and how much are they paid?

It’s appears to be a new government agency created by Albo?

The way to solve this is to give all the pollies a pay rise.

I'm serious!

BUT after that, all "family" t(rips) are to be paid for out of the pollies' pockets.

Just watch as they suddenly become very austere in their spending!  Grin

This is the reason that I was critical of the abuse this one woman copped for spending 2 or 3 thousand dollars a few times. They do in fact all do it as it is within the rules.

We are hammering this woman over spending about $2 or $3 K several times when it is Reported  that Federal politicians have used 4 million in taxpayer funds. I suspect you don't get to $4 million if there aren't a hell of a lot of them doing it 2 - 3K at a time ??? This person seems to be responsible for something like 1% of the spending maybe less ? It is still within the rules.

They very likely do not literally all do it, I can understand why politicians would have no friends or family.

Of course they ALL do it. Though some take an ethical stance and repay or don't do it.
Just like Tradies, Private Companies, Private Schools, Consultants and EVERYONE else jacks up their fees and prices when it comes to Australian Taxpayers paying.

Why? Because they are allowed and there are no RULES that say that they can't.

My advice. Dip in while you can. YOU ARE ALLOWED. Wink

I love to hear  your positivity and solutions!

I find this whole matter very depressing and only removing any of slightest hope I had our government actually cares about the Australian people  Cry Cry Cry

I will politely suggest my own solution.

1st, being a politician comes with travel.

If that doesn’t suit you or your family lifestyle needs, run right along and get another job.

Don’t stand for election and then complain how horrible a job it is!9

You will be replaced in seconds and never missed.
The door will not hit you on your way out!

2nd , some very basic time management skills and priorities.

Yes you sign off on massive amount of money to support the  AFL, NRL, the Olympic Games or whatever.

Your job is done.

There is no need to take  four days off work to attend a n event for no other reason than it’s a photo opportunity for your own ego.

In fact given your paid 400k a year I would expect you should be doing something much more productive for the country than laying around on the ground throwing confetti in the air.

Perhaps google professional  behaviour?

3, politicians wages should be indexed directly to average Australians wage.
Despite what they believe they aren’t rockstars nor media stars.

They are equally too boring and ugly to even be considered in the same light.

By fixing their wages too the average income will immediately see them suddenly focus on working Australians in that wage bracket and watch how quickly the wage increases.

4, there  unbelievable pensions should again be linked to every other Australians.

It should be means tested in other words.
If they retire and earn outside the amount every other  retired person is punished by.

So should they.

Watch how quickly people on a pension will suddenly be able to work and not have their pensions wiped.

There outrageous political pension should be  directly linked to a KPI .

If the living standards in Australia improve by the world index then they should automatically receive a higher pension.

If how ever the living standards in Australia decline then there pension should as well.

They made the decisions that cause either the rise or fall!

5  and final.

I find it disgusting that it’s suggested we must pay our politicians more in the hope it might deter them from corruption.

Really?

You are actually electing/ employing people and feeling that you must pay them more in the  very vainl hope that they may then act honestly and with integrity?

Omg, Australia, stop and think about what we have become.

Another solution would also be mandatory sentencing for a convicted politician.

30 years regardless the offence and all assets confiscated by the state and sold.

In conclusion I honestly believe if you need to be paid more to not be a criminal in your job and if your only interest in being a leader of our nation is to take as much money as you can possibly get.

You’re unfit for office.

The people we need leading Australia are  the people who would happily do it for free as a service to both our country and their fellow citizens.

Seriously serving the people of Australia is a privilege .

If you think you’re not paid enough for the privilege to be our servant.

Leave!

If your primary goal is to create generational wealth for your family and have a great time at the taxpayers expense.

Be gone

U
WA Senator Fatima 'Islam Voice' Payman has billed taxpayers almost $120,000 for family travel entitlements, according to the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA).

Ms Payman incurred more travel expenses for family members than even Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, despite being independent and holding no ministerial position.

Between Q3 of 2022 and Q3 of 2025, Ms Payman used $119,790 of taxpayer funds for family members to accompany her on parliamentary trips.

Trade Minister Don Farrell has used taxpayer funds to fly his wife and other family members a distance almost halfway to the moon while Greens firebrand Sarah Hanson-Young has ferried her lobbyist husband to and from Canberra on 78 publicly funded airfares.

Intensifying pressure on Anthony Albanese to reform parliamentarians’ entitlements, it can be revealed that Senator Farrell – one of Labor’s most respected and feared powerbrokers – has flown his wife, Nimfa, and potentially other family members a collective 3.7 times around the Earth under family reunion benefits since Labor won government in 2022 at a cost of $90,058.19.

Worth a watch.

Imo Albo lays the blame on Scomo for all the rorts and fraud and  corruption that the current government he has been responsible for the last six years.

Seriously, watch it.

It’s all Scomo fault for Anika Wells fraud.

Old Albo.
