Kids uploaded a Google image of a golden retriever as a "selfie" for facial age estimation and it passed, granting access.

Others used AI-generated adult faces or edited images to fool the systems.

I love watching people making our pollies look like the incompetent idiots that they are. And, it's extremely funny watching teenagers doing it.

Which is why I asked if they had consulted teenagers before implementing this policy.

Our politicians just have no idea - on both sides.

Millions wasted on this esafety nonsense which is proving to be useless.

Annika and AnAl speak proudly to the UN with implementing this UN policy.

Grandson Number 1 (14) had facial recognition judge him as 19 and Grandson Number 2 used a free VPN.   No change at all.  Why have a system that can be bypassed so easily?   Why spend all those millions on a system that is so flawed when we have public service systems like Hospitals, Roads and Infrastructure that is in decline.  I am sure there are some young people who may benefit from this - but with such easy workarounds it fails the pub test.    A simpler way would be for concerned parents to register the MAC Addresses of the technology their children use and block that from accessing social media IPs.  Just a thought - may be hard to implement but was it even considered?

I've been waiting for that one... I suspect that some sites are already moving to quickly get rid of minors who are reported, as a start.  Anyone who sees the way they 'think' would see why they should be held back from discussion until at least age sixteen - some of them are as bad as some of the 'adults' here who've been at it for years now... you all know who I mean.

Exactly my thoughts.  The means exists to block specific sites.

Well, social media bans are now in force.
What is to come is the age verification for search engines on 27/12/2025.

That is going to be big!   I guess, we all have to verify to google and yahoo soon.
I can just see the data being hacked and sold by hackers.   Cry

Actually ages old accounts like yours will pass through ..

Oops.

Social media accounts sold to under-16s to bypass ban

Quote:
Just over 24 hours into Australia’s social media ban, kids have already found a myriad of loopholes to beat the restrictions.

It only takes a simple online search to find a black market for social media accounts up for sale.

There are dedicated websites aimed at children locked out by the nationwide ban, with the price tag ranging from just $50 to up in the thousands.

However, cyber safety expert Susan McLean told 10 News+ that buyers should be cautious.

She warns the accounts for sale could just be the work of scammers, and slams the government’s blanket ban, which she says increases “the likelihood of harm to young people”.

I was wondering how long it would take for this to happen. Good old Australia - there's a new scam born every minute so it would seem.

On a related note - I had to laugh when I was on the train to Mosman Park this morning.

There was a woman and (I'm guessing) her two young daughters (maybe 16, maybe not? The younger one didn't look at least 16) on either side of her sitting opposite me and all three of them had their faces glued to their phones all the way from Perth Station until I got off at Mosman Park about 20 minutes later.

The woman glanced up occasionally presumably to see how far it was to their station, the two girls didn't look up from their phones even once.

At one stage I started to wonder if they were all messaging each other on social media because I didn't hear a single word from any of them.  Grin

Maybe they were concerned there was a creepy male staring at them, they were probably scared having someone constantly staring them.

Yes, I was expecting that from Leroy.  Roll Eyes

I wasn't (and didn't need to be) staring at them constantly to notice what they were doing.

But, you knew that already, didn't you?

No I didn't know, I only knew what you wrote "the two girls didn't look up from their phones even once." To me that means you were constantly watching them, which I find weird and creepy.

Kids run more danger of running into danger by having total access to social media that gives them a heap of wrong thoughts and information.

Just look at what the young pricks post online about things... sappy kid bullshot.
