November 21, 2025A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to end its monthslong deployment of National Guard troops to help police the nation’s capital.
U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb concluded that President Donald Trump’s military takeover in Washington, D.C., illegally intrudes on local officials’ authority to direct law enforcement in the district. She put her order on hold for 21 days to allow for an appeal, however.
District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb sued to challenge the Guard deployments. He asked the judge to bar the White House from deploying Guard troops without the mayor’s consent while the lawsuit plays out.
Dozens of states took sides in Schwalb’s lawsuit, with their support falling along party lines.
Cobb found that while the president does have authority to protect federal functioning and property, he can’t unilaterally deploy the D.C. National Guard to help with crime control as he sees fit or call in troops from other states.

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser condemned what she called a “targeted shooting” in the district that left two National Guardsmen in critical condition.
“Today’s attack on two members of the West Virginia National Guard was horrific and unconscionable,” Bowser wrote on X.
She offered prayers to the incident’s victims and loved ones.

President Trump wants to send an additional 500 National Guard to Washington, D.C., after two Guard members were shot just blocks from the White House Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.
Why it matters: Trump's deployment of the National Guard to the nation's capital — intended to counter crime in the capital city — has lasted about four months with no end in sight.
"We have received the request and will rapidly execute," an Army official told Axios Wednesday.
State of play: D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, who has challenged the deployment, said in a recent court filing that the National Guard is expected to remain in D.C. through summer 2026.

clean on all checks". Then the shooting comes after another failed court battle for Trump, being ordered to remove the National Guard, then the shooting happens, supposedly targeted, and the suspect is "
not cooperating with police" so he won't tell his story and might mysteriously Epstein himself?

Mr. Trump described the suspect as “nuts” and said there was “no vetting” by the Biden administration.
Asked whether his administration had granted the asylum request,: “When it comes to asylum, when they’re flown in, it’s very hard to get them out,” he said. “No matter how you want to do it, it’s very hard to get them out, but we’re going to be getting them all out now.”
