Judge orders Trump administration to end National Guard deployment in DC

A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to end its monthslong deployment of National Guard troops to help police the nation’s capital.

U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb concluded that President Donald Trump’s military takeover in Washington, D.C., illegally intrudes on local officials’ authority to direct law enforcement in the district. She put her order on hold for 21 days to allow for an appeal, however.

District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb sued to challenge the Guard deployments. He asked the judge to bar the White House from deploying Guard troops without the mayor’s consent while the lawsuit plays out.

Dozens of states took sides in Schwalb’s lawsuit, with their support falling along party lines.

Cobb found that while the president does have authority to protect federal functioning and property, he can’t unilaterally deploy the D.C. National Guard to help with crime control as he sees fit or call in troops from other states.

DC mayor describes today's attack on 2 National Guardsmen as a "targeted shooting”

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser condemned what she called a “targeted shooting” in the district that left two National Guardsmen in critical condition.

“Today’s attack on two members of the West Virginia National Guard was horrific and unconscionable,” Bowser wrote on X.

She offered prayers to the incident’s victims and loved ones.

Trump wants another 500 National Guard in D.C. after shooting near White House

President Trump wants to send an additional 500 National Guard to Washington, D.C., after two Guard members were shot just blocks from the White House Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.

Why it matters: Trump's deployment of the National Guard to the nation's capital — intended to counter crime in the capital city — has lasted about four months with no end in sight.

"We have received the request and will rapidly execute," an Army official told Axios Wednesday.
State of play: D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, who has challenged the deployment, said in a recent court filing that the National Guard is expected to remain in D.C. through summer 2026.

Apparently Rahmanullah Lakanwal entered into US under the "Sanctuary for Allies" program, which is designed for individuals who collaborated with the American military. According to the attacker's relatives, Laqanwal served in the Afghan Armed Forces for 10 years at the Kandahar Air Base and participated in operations with the US military.

The attacker's motives are unknown. US intelligence agencies do not rule out the possibility that Laqanwal may have been radicalized and under the influence of one of the Daesh propaganda..

Notably, in early January 2025, a former US service member serving in Afghanistan committed a terrorist attack in New Orleans. The attacker turned out to be a supporter of the Islamic State.

Terribly, terribly sad for the guard and her family.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what Trump wanted.

He's looking for an excuse to start shooting people in the streets.

Plus, he's getting more aggressive towards Venezuela.

If he starts a war with a foreign country as well as a war with US citizens he'll use it as an excuse to postpone (indefinitely) the 2028 general election.

Once he leaves the White Supremacist House he'll be spending the rest of his life trying to keep out of prison.

He literally do anything to stay in power, and that includes starting wars and killing innocent people.
