In a rain shadow - not again!  Rely on tank water and a freaking hose split from its connection and lost about an hour of water through the pump.

Came home and the gas on the barbecue was on - wasn't when we left.  Someone turned it on while we were away... WTF?

Too right.
Last 2 years has been a green drought… where everything looks green but there’s been less rain.
It’s a trick of the eyes.
We emptied our dam 18 months ago to clear weeds.
And it’s still half empty to now…the seasonal ducks were not happy!

In the original music theme - they had anvils being struck with hammers at the junctions in the music - went very well with the concept of the metal terminator.. human flesh over metal endo-skeleton... dang doong ta doonk - dang doong ta doonk - some dork cut it out.

Yup.

Can get to 35°C during summer BUT evenings are always 10–12°C—you can sleep!

After a chilly start to summer, and yesterday with fireplace going, today the temp went to nearly 30 deg!
It’s so up and down … cold one day, hot the next.
About 18-20 years ago, on Xmas day, I recall….it was freezing with heavy rain, then it snowed!
Who would believe that! Someone must be f@&k!ng round with the weather!
It’s a joke.  Shocked

Around here, it rarely gets below 20°C at night between October and March, unless it has been raining. During the winter, it is fairly common to have nighttime temperatures not reach below 15°C. But in the June-July dead of winter, you would experience 5 to 10°C nighttime temperatures. Even for those times, the daytime temperatures rarely get below a maximum of 20°C.

I watched a December game of cricket being played at Hobart. They panned the camera around from the game to show that it was snowing nearby.

I turn off the hot water system by around September or October and don't switch it back on until mid-March. Depending on the weather conditions.

I have an airconditioner in this room. But the other week, I turned it on and lost power to my computer. So, I either use the airconditioner without using the computer. Or I keep it off. I have the feeling that the airconditioner is getting a bit inefficient. Last week, I was going to spend $50 on one of those small portable airconditioning units that cool a room. Some old guy tried to convince me to get one of those larger units that do a better job and bring down the humidity levels of the room. I might get one of those in the next week.

This week has been quite reasonable. It was 35°C+ all last week. This week, it feels like between 30 and 35°C and fairly breezy.

Sounds like you have an electrical problem!

My house was rented out for a long time, some decades, to a number of tenants before I bought it. Electrician was not impressed by some of the work! The “earth” he just laughed at and replaced.

Two sockets had the inactive and neutral lines switched—switch the socket on and the switch in the meter box flipped! The fuses—actual fuses—passed it, the smart meter I had installed cut the circuit.

One power point had a mouse in it, killed when it touched the active wire  Grin

Ya reckon? I had to swap electrical sockets to be able to grill my sausages. I went to make bacon and eggs. The eggs would not cook -- atleast, not that well.

My bathroom light is not lighting. Sometimes it would come on. For the last week, it has remained off. Either the lightbulb is just not screwed in properly, or it is an electrical problem.

I am too afraid to get my parents to get some electrical work done, as the house is in such an untidy and dirty state. I will put up with the problems until I get the house cleaned up.

I can’t believe these fires in NSW!!!
We are barely touching in sumner and there’s houses burnt down  Embarrassed

Yesterday here in Melbourne was a stinker of 30 deg I was nearly dying as we went to a work break up party outdoors …. sunblock and sun hat and sunglasses! At home later with air con on.
And today …. It’s freezing and raining again! Fireplace going.
‘Tis madness.  Roll Eyes

But look at this photo of Koolewong with fire blazing. What a capture!
I can’t understand how they live close to the sea but can’t be saved from fire?
Perhaps lives can be saved being near water?

The 2019-2020 "Black Summer" bushfires started in November too and it has started again.

Boat fires at sea are probably the worse.

It was 42C here yesterday, normally we would go up hills to waterfalls but with bushfires starting to burn decided to stay at home. It was rain at night so fire danger has been somewhat reduced.

In the 30's here for a few days... just transplanted TOG's Monstera Deliciosa - it was suffering and root bound in the heat in the biggest pot we could find - so The Honourable Slave put together a raised garden bed from bits left over from the bigger ones, and filled it with soil.  Nearly did my back in lifting that plant out of the pot...

As the back discs wear thin they crush easier... ouch...

At 5:45 in the morning, I was packed and ready to go on a 700km trip south. I was waiting for my ride to pick me up. Having preoccupied myself with a mobile phone game, I was amazed at how much I was sweating. My ride came and picked me up. The driver put the airconditioned seats (of all things) so that I could cool down. It was an uneventful drive down south.

A night after arriving, we had this mild storm and a downpour of rain. I was not that concerned about the rain as I marched out in the weather and cooled down a little. The rain passed and I felt the cool southerly winds. Melbourne, for the Boxing Day test, had 14°C at 10am in the morning. I think our area must have had the breeze from that city arrive up north by the evening.

It must have been the first time I have used the hot water tap for a shower since October. I realise that my motel was airconditioned and that was probably what did it. But, outside, the temperature felt like an early Spring night.

Came back to town here and had to use the airconditioning.

Cool - lovely.  Also checked the water tanks and nearly full.  Great result from just over an inch of rain in a month.

First thing I did when I arrived here was to connect the shed to the tanks - and water flows... about an extra 10-15%.  It ran out into the yard and turned it to slush and no way was I going to entertain that.  One twelve year drought was more than enough.

Tank water through a filter and then boiled and poured over ground coffee - only way to keep the chemicals out of your brain, man.

Ahhh no ..... I'm old enough to be your father.

Did your parents teach you to be slovenly & let things turn to shyte around you & live in it?

I thought you said that you were not much different in age to me. You certainly act younger.

My parents were fairly poor with their organisation. For example, my conception. I grew up in a household that tolerated a certain amount of untidiness.

Whew it’s hot today!
Like stepping into an oven!
There was even a small bushfire 1 km from us but local firies were onto it quick!

We were down the peninsula but decided to come back to property just in case as weather is extreme.

Here’s our current temperature!

It hit 42 C today in Melbourne - it's cooling down now - only 28.
It should get to 19 over night.

Thank God for air conditioning.

Hot, dry, windy - bushfire summer.....  29 deg now.

Solar and air con is great - except the companies worked out they weren't getting enough from us.

Soooo much cooler today! The air outside is fresh and it’s cloudy.
What a relief!
Yesterday was worried about a deliberately lit fire north Gold Coast in Coombabah/Runaway Bay (Queensland) as it approached close the estate our rental house is  Shocked
Like WTF! Who goes around lighting fires?
Sadly I saw a vid someone posted of a house that caught fire.

I wonder, is this deliberate lighting of fires to destroy houses is to bring property prices down?
Because it is booming there.

And what do we Victorians get for the hottest day ever in some parts (Ouyen, almost 50 deg!) … we all get an unplanned power outtage! Most of the state affected. Our weather here was this and then power went out. It’s stuffy. Can’t open windows/doors as it’s like opening an oven door!
I sit in candle lit room thinking if power stays off all night, the food I have to throw out from fridge.
But 4 hours later ….and let there be light!
Our smaller generator got flooded in winter when power went out as we had it near water tank for pump, we’ve only got one bigger one, and a tiny one for caravanning.
Obviously need to buy another generator!
That’s next on shopping list.
Here’s our recorded temp when power went out.

I have an airconditioner in this room here. But it does not do much good. I could block off the hallway with a curtain and close the door to the tv room, and that does help keep the room comfortable. But, given that the airconditioner is so ageing, it is just better to endure the weather, rather than the electricity invoice.

'42.7°C in Melbourne just before 5pm, where the hottest air arrived later in the afternoon. Earlier, Australian Open matches on outside courts were suspended under the tournament’s extreme heat policy.'

Tennis Australia noted that the event was warm last year. It was warm the year before that in the Aust Open and rumours spread that it was linked to summer. (It gets warm in summer.) (In Australia). A spokesman hinted that this may be discussed at next year's pre-match chat.  Any comments on summer are welcome.

Europeans at 42d. in tennis look like drips. There are other months such as May, October or July. There are 11 months. All are cooler than January.  Tennis is cool.

January is typically the hottest month in Melbourne, with average daily maximum temperatures around 27.4, often exceeding 40during summer heatwaves. February is a close second, with similar, slightly more humid, and often sunny, hot conditions.  Hot people feel hot.

I’m finding the weather warm but it’s summer.

I use a fan on the sticky hot days.

Mostly at night.

I avoid the afternoons western sun.

That’s when it gets really warm up here.

It’s been a long time since we had a decent rain since last year at some point. Can’t even remember last time it rained, we had such oppressive heat.

Very nice here in Perth at the moment, especially for February.

Although I do believe tropical cyclone Mitchell (now ex tropical cyclone) is responsible.

I'll enjoy the "cooler" weather while it lasts.  Smiley

Imagine waking up on a summer's morning and it 13°C outside at 9 in the morning. Even on a winter's morning, we here in Rockhampton would expect that kind of temperature at 9 in the morning. But, Hobart has that temperature right now.
I awaited pick up for my travel down to SEQld for the Christmas break. My shirt was drenched with sweat at 7 in the morning. It was like a sauna.
My electricity bill cost me double what I usually pay, because I left the airconditioner running for 3 days straight.
It feels like we may have a very cold winter coming up.

Rockhampton being in the Tropic of Capricorn, I found it so humid the times I went there.
It must be going through that intense humidity again.

Last year, the winter was above average temperatures. No minimum below 5°C. And they were few and far between. I had my doona out to cope with May to August nights. But I was overusing the doona for September to October nights. I gave up using the doona after mid-October. The year 2024 winter, I think was okay. But, I have not had a cold winter since some years ago.

Just the other day, I felt that feeling of "it's gonna be a cold winter" feeling. I will wager that we will have a 1°C night (or less) for winter 2026.

We have an approaching storm right now. I will be at work in the next hour. Tonight will be interesting.

We finally got rain, but an absolute downpour! It was flooding out back of house and I’m out there barefoot clearing leaves and debris away from drains!
Too much rain after no rain for ages, not good, lots of flash flooding in other suburbs.
Now weather has cooled which is a positive. It’s almost start of Autumn in about 3 days.
Be interesting to see how this winter goes.

Almost like Melbourne weather in Perth at the moment.

Very unusual February here.

36 degrees yesterday then 29 forecast with a bit of rain and a few thunderstorms today then 36 again tomorrow... and 26 for Saturday and 25 for Sunday at this stage.

https://reg.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth.shtml?ref=hdr

The 'cooler' weather is great today even though the humidity is a bit high as you would expect.

* Edit: Updated forecast - now 33 tomorrow, not 36.  Cool

Oh god! That was so difficult to cope with at 5 pm tonight, we all dressed up ready to go out to our yearly high school class reunion, BOOM, like hell opened up its floodwater gates! And hailed!
We got into work clothes and unblocked drains, spoutings, but the water was way too fast and filled our shed with muddy water!
Our power points were not working, kept tripping out.
So I couldn’t use hair dryer and my hair went crappy.
So we cleaned up, got dressed and went out an hour later.
Came home early to sort the power point fiasco out (fridge, phone charger etc)
We isolated the problem to be at one end of the house, so turned off power to that area on circuit board.
Safety switch now stays on.
Tomorrow we find out where the actual problem was.
And clean muddy water out of shed!
So over these extreme bouts of weather  Angry

Wow!
First of all, I’m stunned by how much flooding is happening up in NT.
Second, this helicopter rescue is amazing! That helicopter driver is incredible!
This will go viral … I love it! Two people and their dog rescued.
Watch the video. This is not the entire vid … it’s only showing part rescue, one of the helicopter guys going back into car to get the dog.

Sunday, Monday just gone big rains here. I measured about 230 mm.

River rose quickly but only went to just above minor flood levels.

Burnett River in B'berg was higher.

Rocky should have had some flooding this week.
