Any govt funded (aka taxpayer) job just happens to be way more expensive than a private one. You will find that the cost of the website if paid for by a private company would probably cost 89% less. Let's face it. When taxpayers pay taxpayers, taxpayers rip off taxpayers.

I'm certainly not defending what looks to be indefensible, however, Watt has now commented.

BoM asked to explain ‘what happened here’ after cost of website redesign revealed to be $96.5m

Environment minister Murray Watt ‘not happy’ with cost blowout and has shared concerns with new Bureau of Meteorology boss.

I certainly can't see how the cost can be justified.
