Who do Libs actually have to be the cherry atop the manure pile and why would they want to be opposition leader for next 5 elections with about 3 members behind them ?

But according to Newspoll figures, she still remains the preferred party leader - with 21 per cent of voters preferring her ahead of Andrew Hastie (15 per cent), Angus Taylor (9 per cent), Tim Wilson (6 per cent) and Ted O’Brien (3 per cent).

28 per cent of Coalition voters preferred Ms Ley as Opposition Leader, over 20 per cent who voted for Mr Hastie.

It is still early days.

I don't believe the LNP will be able to win the next election. But that doesn't mean they can't win the election after.

This is very normal for an opposition party to be going through a low point, before finding its feet again.

But things can turn very quickly, even for a so-called popular government. Remember Kevin Rudd romping it in? That was very short lived. Julia Gillard scraped in with minority government and the Labor government was flogged by Tony Abbott of all people.

Oh and remember Labor when Tony Abbott took over the leadership of the Liberals? They were celebrating. He was unliked and unelectable. He was the reason why the LNP would remain in opposition for a decade more.

Didn't work out that way, did it?
