It's the British stiff upper lip - the British bulldog.

England win by 4 wickets.

Nonsense - the Aussies choked.

The POMs never surrender:

Churchill,
We shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender.

Reckon the Barmy Army's nerves were frayed when they were losing wickets with Stokes gone for just 2? Grin

Stokes needs to retire - he's lost his marbles.   Grin

Controversies around the pitch.
But it's also a case of short game batters not up to Test standard and style.

A good read here:
https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/articles/c1m84mppgmko

and here:
https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/articles/cdxw1y79rnpo

Captain Ben Stokes says people would raise "hell" if the Melbourne pitch on which his England team beat Australia inside two days had been produced in another part of the world.

The 10mm of grass left on the surface resulted in 36 wickets falling in six sessions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the highest score by a batter on either side was Travis Head's 46.

Some sort of game should be played on the 3 empty days.
Maybe not on that pitch tho.

But, will the test last until the 7th?

A lot of the responsibility should lie in the batsmen.

They have been heavily influenced by 1 day cricket and the BBL.
That is where huge money is so I can't blame them

So they still won't admit that another factor in the poor batting in the Tests is that both countries have been selecting 20 Over style batsmen.

If the batsmen get a friendly pitch they will make a lot more runs if they take it slowly.
The BBL batters will lose games from high risk playing.

20 over Batsmen score fast scores off less balls.
Chris Lynn for Adelaide just scored 70+ off just 40 balls. Sixers galore!

Test Bowlers don't have to restricts runs as much so they can use attacking balls more and wider too. Lynn would be out in just 12 balls even though he scored a quick 35 runs 'only'.

No-one believed me here when I said years ago...

20 overs game: Defensive Bowling & Attacking Batting
Test game: Defensive Batting & Attacking Bowling.

I remember at school when everyone and teachers laughed at me when I predicted Sri Lanka would be World Cup CHAMPIONS 🏆
What they didn't know was that I was watching the Hong Kong Super 8's for a few years and watching Sri Lankans smashing everyone into the stadiums like Bradman could never do.
Come to One Day 50 over match and Jayasuriya and Kaluwitheran smash half the total score in the first 15 overs and change Cricket forever.
