Neither Israelis nor Jews hide from or deny their recent history. They're not cowards. They don't deny how Israel came to be - warts and all - nor shy from it... what they do ask is that their critics moderate or rethink their criticism of Israel in the context of Jewish history over the last 2000 years - particularly their suffering at the hands of Europeans - and their cultural claim to the region.

Regarding Israel, Israelis take issue with Muslims from the region because many directly challenge Israel's existence in what they claim is Arab land, not because they're Islamophobic or anti-conservative religion... they have the Haredi, so they understand well the nature of the region's religious conservatism.

That's the difference.
