Labors new record for immigration

Australia records highest net migrant arrivals ever, experts warn of unsustainable growth

Migration to Australia has reached unprecedented levels, with more than 415,000 permanent and long-term arrivals in the first nine months of 2025 alone.

Australia is seeing record-breaking levels of permanent and long-term migrant arrivals, with numbers in 2025 already surpassing previous highs, the Institute of Public Affairs says.

Deputy executive director of the IPA Daniel Wild says the figures show Australia is experiencing an unprecedented migration surge.

“The first three quarters of 2025 saw the highest number of net permanent and long-term arrivals than any other year on record,” Mr Wild said.

Analysis of the Australian Bureau of Statistics updated overseas arrivals and departures data, covering the year to September 2025, shows 415,760 net permanent and long-term arrivals from 1 January to 30 September, a 6 per cent increase on the previous record set in 2024.

A total of 468,390 net permanent and long-term arrivals were recorded in the 12 months to 30 September 2025, the highest 12-month total on record, 4 per cent above 2024.

Meanwhile, 35,890 net arrivals in September 2025 alone marked the second-highest September on record, behind September 2023.

“Elevated net permanent and long-term arrival numbers have now become a new norm, with the indicator of migration patterns showing the federal government’s ‘Big Australia’ policy is well and truly in full flight,”

“The out-of-control levels of migrant arrivals should not be blamed on the migrants. This failure belongs to the federal government alone. The numbers are clearly unsustainable,” he said.

Mr Wild also questioned whether the migration program reflected community priorities.

“The federal government’s out-of-control migration program does not have the consent of the community, and it is not targeted toward areas of economic need,” he said.

“Is there any wonder that a growing number of Australians want to hit the brakes on migration inflow until such a time that housing, public infrastructure, and critical services are able to keep up with this rapid explosion in population?”

AnAl has to prop up his housing Ponzi scheme.

Labor is following WEF and UN policy with replacement migration.

We have record levels of immigrants when AnAl said he would reduce it.

Labor doesn't understand supply and demand.

And some people then have the nerve to suggest that retirees (i.e. elderly people) who live alone in their own homes should be taxed for having extra bedrooms.

The attached story is from The Senior newspaper which I picked up the other day.

Correct - they shouldn't be "scapegoated for a housing crisis they didn't create".

Correct - this is dangerously close to elder abuse.

And, correct again - this is the result of decades of poor planning and neglect by successive governments.

This is also the result of housing becoming a means for greedy people (including politicians) to make lots of money at the expense of others instead of being a place for people to have an affordable roof over their heads.

Disgraceful stuff.

Wow - in only 9 months

as much as a large city in only 9 months -

example:

The City of Greater Geelong's estimated resident population was 289,565 as of June 30, 2024,
