Ooze, pelagic (deep-sea) sediment of which at least 30 percent is composed of the skeletal remains of micros of which at least 30 percent is composed of the skeletal remains of micros like foraminifera.

Didn’t think “ooze” would have been a useful clue.  Cool

Bit more info:
Quote:
Globigerina ooze is a type of deep-sea sediment, also known as foraminiferal ooze, that is primarily composed of the calcium carbonate shells of microscopic planktonic foraminifera, especially the genus Globigerina. It forms on the ocean floor in areas far from land where the slow settling of these tiny shells is not obscured by other sediments, covering nearly half of the deep-sea floor, particularly in low to mid-latitude regions. The composition and widespread occurrence of globigerina ooze make it a vital archive for reconstructing past ocean conditions through paleoclimate research.

Identifying the species etc is part of palynology.

Statistics.

One statistic or parameter is the mode—the value with the most cases. Bimodal—a sample, population or curve with two peaks.

No!

I was shocked that I got no letters at all for my first guess (random).

Got a couple of crucial letters in my second guess (random), and then your clue kicked in.
