Mamdani wins NY
Nov 5th, 2025 at 1:10pm

Quote:
New Yorkers have shaken the United States's political establishment and delivered 34-year-old socialist Zohran Mamdani a thumping victory in the city's contentious mayoral election.

For weeks, polls predicted Mr Mamdani was on course for an historic triumph and as counting continued on Tuesday night, local time, his lead became unassailable.

He will become the first Muslim mayor of New York, and joins a small handful of people born overseas to get the keys to Gracie Mansion since the city threw off its colonial shackles almost two centuries ago.

If Trump says you should not vote for Mamdani, that means you should definitely, absolutely vote for him and I'm glad he won! From what I heard of his policies, he sounds like he'll be a great Mayor.

NYC will be like London soon - since Sadiq Aman Khan became Mayor of London there’s been over 100,000 stabbings.

Enjoy.

Yes, I must be catching TDS: I loathe Trump for saying he would deport Mamdani if he won.

Trouble is Mamdani will not be able to implement his 'socialist' policies, because he won't be able to tax the rich to fund his policies - the establishment won't allow it.

I hope the progressive wing of the Dems can now assert itself over the moribund 'centrist' faction, by exploring the funding of government via issuance of money from treasury, rather than taxing or borrowing from  'taxpayers'.

[Milton Friedman's line: "inflation is always a monetary phenomenon" is BS; it's time to abolish the "independent central bank"].

Bernie Sanders knows of MMT through Stephanie Kelton (who was his economic adviser in the 2016 election); so there is a chance Mamdani - in Bernie's progressive faction - might discover his options are far greater than relying on the rich to fund his policies.

Bully Trump has threatened to defund NYC if the "communist" (Trump's word) is elected; hopefully 'TACO' will apply when Mamdani is sworn in.

Voter turnout reached its highest level in over a decade for a citywide election, with around 35% (2 million out of 5.6 miĺion).   Mamdani won 50% of that

So 18% of all eligible New Yorkers elected him mayor.

Yes - he's a political communication genius every bit as rousing as Trump (if you'll excuse the comparison).

But how can he be so confident he can deliver on his promises, if he has to rely on raising taxes on rich people?

Trump has his plan to tax the rest of the world instead of taxing Americans (the results still to be determined), Mamdani can't try that trick....

Higher taxes and fewer Police, what could possibly go wrong?

American political power is at the top (aka President position)
So the Left can only achieve Mayor level. Grin

Australia is the Political reverse.
Look at how weak our Federal level has become via the position of PM.
Our political power is really at 'the people's (the Common Wealth)' level, like Shires and States.
