Police warn wave of kill crew plots break 'no families' gangland code

The alleged murder of a woman who was stripped naked, bound and gagged before she was killed shows a wider trend that Sydney's "guns for hire" are willing to break gangland code, a senior NSW detective says.
Police believe Ms Tran, 45, was kidnapped outside her Bankstown home in April and killed, allegedly by a "contracted kill crew" on the orders of a Victorian-based drug gang.
Homicide Squad Commander Joe Doueihi said officers are concerned a long-held underworld rule that families were off limits seemed to be no more.
Police said members of an off-shore drug syndicate believed Thi Kim Tran's husband had stolen drugs from them after hiring him to manufacture illicit substances.
Three men aged 31, 20 and 21 have been charged with the murder of Ms Tran,
conspiring to kill her husband, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,
kidnapping in company and participating in a criminal group.
It comes as days after police dramatically thwarted an attempted hit on a man on October 15 as he went to pick up his children from a Condell Park day care centre.
Of the 36 gangland deaths to rock Sydney since the shootings over the city's drug wars began in 2020 it is the first time police believe a family member has been deliberately targeted.
There have been several cases of mistaken identity and innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire, but investigators believe Ms Tran's death was a disturbing first.
"These young criminals are ruthless. They don't care about the code. It's no longer, 'families are off limits'.
"They're selfish, they're greedy, they don't think of the consequences, these guys are big, big trouble."
He added that these groups were "guns for hire
that go out there and act as enforcers for organised crime groups".
