Bobby it may not be a DDOS attack. It could just be badly designed bots that collect data for training AI natural language models.

But why would it need over 4,000 guests to do it? -

sounds malicious to me.

It is selfish, not malicious. They use a range of IP addresses to make it hard for websites to block them.

I think I've mentioned this before but the AskWoody site had the same problem a couple of months back.

https://www.askwoody.com/newsletter/bots-attack/

They had to use Cloudflare (which costs $$ of course) to put a stop to it... and they're still using it because it seems that as soon as they stop using it the bots return.

cloudflare is probably the one sending all the bots Cheesy Cheesy

Well -

guests are not turned off now - we have only

Guests: 65
Search Engines: 9
Googlebot (3), MSN Search (2), Yandex (4)

Somehow we're not being attacked by bots.
What happened? - did they give up for now?

Nice to see you back here, John?

For how long this time?

Good business model, send out thousands of bots, then charge website owners to get rid of the bots?  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Now they're back again - 5028 "Guests" and 12 Search Engines. Sheesh.

I’ve checked members registration list, there hasn’t been any new regs in this past week, maybe not so curious guests, or maybe it really is all bots!
Or maybe not enough time has gone by for really curious guests to join…yet.

We have a landline phone, as we are basically country, we need that wretched landline expense to be online for the internet.
For years we’ve given none our landline number yet at least twice daily it rings.
We would answer it and it clickety clacks with no answer, or it hangs up immediately we pick up phone.
I told hubby to not bother as it’s just auto computer bot thingy doing it for some unknown reason.
But yeah…there’s that nuisance ….

So here we all are, in our own private forum with no other eyes peering in on us, for now.

I don’t think it matters one bit whether FreeDiver fixes the speed issue or not.

When filth like this is allowed we are not going to attract good new members:
