Like Christianity in Europe centuries ago, Islam is all-pervasive within an Islamic society... living beyond its reach is almost impossible.

Muslims in these countries never hear criticisms of it. or 'blasphemy' against it, which makes it all the more shocking when they migrate into countries where the local cultures tolerate regular criticism and mockery of religion and religious traditions.

And, if you think the West is that far removed from religious reverence, look back to the Beatles' 'Bigger than Jesus' or the release of 'The Brides of Christ' or 'The Life of Brian'.

Yes, it's been nearly 200 years in some Western regions that individuals could escape all religious restrictions.

Not in all, but.

In the US, Christian religious fervour is still strong enough to deter public figures from outing themselves as non-religious or atheist, and nearly all regularly speak in religiously reverent terms publicly.

Even in avowedly secular (dare I say 'religiously' secular?) Australia, Julia Gillard was the first Australian PM to publicly out herself as an atheist.

What's the point of comparing Old Christian ways with modern Islamic ways? Sadly for the West - most superficially Christian countries - i.e. those founded on more moderate and understanding mores and values - have become The Civlised Tribes - and everyone has been sneaking up on them ever since.

Beware the gentle man who turns...... is is not wise to waken a sleeping giant by telling him he can't walk his dog as the law requires, or eat a pork sanger at school, or dance or have music, or hold his traditional festivals such as Christmas and Rememberance Day, and especially that unless your wife or daughter dresses up like a nun with nothing showing but eyes - she can be raped at will by the literal scum of the earth.
