George Wallace would have completely understood Charlie Kirk... and would have seen himself in him, before he, Wallace, was shot and permanently paralysed.

During his years of regret, while in a wheelchair and wracked with permanent nerve pain, Wallace reflected on his populist rhetoric, ultimately admitting that he spewed it cynically to accumulate political power.

Kirk, like Wallace before him, tapped into the sewerage underbelly of American culture - evoking Roth's 'indigenous American berserk'.
