‘’Still wondering how 10 police couldn't take 1 guy.’’

I think it will come out that they were not all together.
That he was able to take the ambushed Officers weapons indicates this.
Remember these were general duties police not experienced infantrymen

Example.
A good mate, Cedric Charles Ingra was forward scout of a 2RAR patrol in the Malayan Emergency, he was shot in ambush and died a bit later.
He had previously served in 3RAR in Korea so had a lot of experience.

They knew what he was like, he had a record for being known by police.
To have 10 coppers go there to apprehend one guy….that speaks volumes in itself they knew what he was like.
I just have this feeling they thought safety in numbers and that he would have no choice but to turn himself in.
I feel also they were not prepared to encounter the resistance with a tragic outcome.
As he’s been arrested many times, thinking it’s just another time the clown is arrested.

It was a shock and surprise to the cops the seriousness so they took cover to assess the new situation at hand.

That’s my take on it, they were not really prepared and didn’t think he would’ve done what he did.

There’s always a first time for everything to change suddenly and I wish the cops took it more seriously. Body armour etc.

MY OPINION.......
I would suggest that today, in 2025, in Australia,
there are just as many violent criminals 'in the community',
as there are, behind prison walls.

That circumstance is just plain 'wrong'.

Our society should not 'be' that way.

What is the solution ?

Whatever the solution is, it seems that no one wants 'to touch it' !

A wicked generation.

You KNOW my solutions -

1.  Deportation without all this 'appeals' business for Outlanders - you convicted Joe, you go..
2.  Banishment from the realm for citizens born here once shown to be incurable criminals
3.  Gon'Mo for all types under Aboriginal guards in the extremes of The Homeland

Victoria police say they have arrested a 42-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, interviewed them and released them “pending further inquiries” in the manhunt for suspected gunman Dezi Freeman in Victoria’s high country.

Undecided

They apparently went to search the place, which explains the numbers; it wasn’t a city apartment.
That he was seemingly able to take the murdered policemen’s weapons indicates that the others were elsewhere.
He was certainly known to police but, it seems, not as a violent offender, more of a nuisance.

Body armour is limited in its usefulness, the type that can be worn with suits or ordinary uniforms will stop ordinary shot pellets and most pistol bullets but a hit from a 12gauge slug will usually put the wearer down for the count.
Low grade body armour is next to useless against the high powered rifles.

Apparently there are 450 cops looking for this guy -
and many of them are putting their lives in jeopardy from
the extreme weather conditions:

https://www.weatherzone.com.au/vic/north-east/mount-buller

Quote:
Mount Buller summit

Temperature -1.2 C
feels like -17.4 C
North East for Friday. Cloudy. Very high chance of rain, with possible small hail in the evening.
Snow falling above 700 metres.
The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.
Damaging winds possible in the N. Winds N 25 to 35 km/h
turning NW 25 to 40 km/h in the early afternoon.

The wet weather, and high winds could cause hypothermia in a few hours.
That can be fatal.

Search and clear one space at a time using maximum security and force. Obviously they spread out to search, not thinking he would do this.

Can't lay blame - it's easy to say after the event.  It's clear the police went in not expecting things to turn violent... bet they don't ever do that again.

Use the choppers and some bang-bangs to flush him into your net... channel him ... that's what the bangs are about... let him think you have a line of searchers coming from X direction and drive him into Y where your people really are.  One chance to surrender.  Bet he's cold or holed up in a cave or something.

Hypothermia:

Unless he has found shelter in a cave and has some hot food
by using say a small gas Primus stove and some tinned food -
and a change into dry clothes he will be dead.

As I take the dog outside for a wee in this cold night and I start to feel the bite of this coldness…. I thought those police are going to end up sick with cold/flu from all this!
I hope they are rugged up warm with thermal underwear and hot soup/food available at all times.
It’s very icy cold tonight.

Wood fire... smell the smoke... how far can he have traveled before the cordon came down?  Does he smoke?  Bic Lighter.

The family might know if he had some gear like a small stove etc. ... what he was wearing...... favourite spots in the bush .... that's why they were in.  Even if they are not accomplices, it's a chance to gather some useful info.  What camping gear did he have?  Check back and see what's missing, gives an idea how long he might hold out in that weather, and narrows down the potential hidey-holes.

Hope they're watching his home to ensure he doesn't sneak back for some gear.

It all helps.

Hope he's shivering and feeling low.... the longer the better.

Doesn’t need a fire, and for warmth a decent blanket will do, the trick is to find a warm spot to sleep.
A wombat hole does nicely as does a hollow log, or find the nearest cow and snuggle up, but if she objects then kick her out and sleep on the ground that she has conveniently warmed up and when that spot gets cold, kick another cow.
Sheep are even better, they tend to camp together in cold weather so wriggling into a warm spot is not hard, can be a bit dirty though.

I don't think he's in the bush.

I suspect he's hiding somewhere very close to the scene of the crime.

Maybe in someone else's house.

Quite probably... the cops will be searching houses.... sheds and such.. in armed teams this time.. full gear ...

Anyone caught harbouring him should get twenty-five to life... time to take the gloves off...

Gon-Mo anyone?  Very cost efficient.... as near escape proof as you can get...  Croc SupperMax...

Well, he’s said to be a bushman but he could be a Mongolian soccer star for all the creditably that is due the media coverage.
