A military error by the IDF appears to show what they call a double tap. The IDF attack and then waited and then attacked again targeting the rescue teams . Terrible but war is hell.

Contrary to the current situation, Theodore Herzl’s vision for Zionism was not initially a battle against Arabs or Islam…

And he was not primarily motivated by religious zeal.

It was Herzl’s answer to the ancient and 2000-year-long conflict between Christo-Europeans and Jewish Europeans.

Herzl, a secular Austro-Hungarian Jew, ultimately concluded that the permanent politico-cultural statelessness of being a Jew anywhere within the Christo-centric world would always leave the Jew ultimately vulnerable to attack or extreme prejudice, such that no Jew, while stateless, would have any standing equal to that of his local ethnocultural counterpart.

His remedy to this was the idea of the creation of a Jewish state within the only land that Jews could at least historically claim to be their homeland.

He envisioned Jews to be known, not primarily as Jews, but as Israelis.

When comparing Hamas to some of its historical equivalents - those Judeans who stood against Roman rule, you'll see what Roman procurators and governors of the region saw in 65AD and 136AD - a people and religious culture that bred a warrior-caste who preferred death and absolute religiocultural anihilation to betraying their religion.

Surely, no one in Judea at the time seriously believed that a relative micro-group of religious warriors could withstand all assaults against them by the region's superpower - single-minded in its intent to obliterate local resistance to its rule, even at the cost of the deaths of everyone in the region... even at the cost of a scorched-earth policy, such that not a stone upon a stone would remain.

Some things in human history are timeless.
