Taxing your spare bedroom!

Oh wow, a push towards cramped apartment living… copying China, sardine living coming here to Australia soon  Roll Eyes
In China we saw smaller units or houses demolished to make way for apartment living.
And now I read this story below.

Call for ‘desirable’ spare bedrooms to be taxed to help fix housing

Welcome to the brave new world. If this ever comes into play there will be a revolution.

Well, New South Wales has been doing this with Public Housing for 12 years.

NSW residents asked to pay 'bedroom tax'

Vacant bedroom charge in public housing - NSW Government

I'm surprised the rest of the States and Territories haven't followed NSW yet (I don't believe they have, can't find anything to say any of them have yet).

When they all get around to doing this (and I'm sure they will eventually) then governments will probably turn their 'attention' to private home owners.

And then, as Belgarion says, there will be a revolution. It's probably only the fear of a revolution that has stopped them doing it already.

It is a problem, probably promoted by big business which can sell twice as many appliances to people living separately as to people living together.

Ideally you live with grandparents parents and kids in one house. Then the government can piss off out of aged care and day care and people can develop true bonds of kinship.

But people are easier to control when you isolate them. Dan Andrews certainly knew this during the world's longest lockdowns.

It's great to have a few hundred acres and then you can have 3 generations on the one block.

It makes it so much easier to head overseas as there are always people around to feed pets etc etc.

The urban chode seems to like living on his own with just his phone as his best friend.

Sounds like hell to me, but when all you want is safety and comfort, other humans are just annoying.
